How can I get to the hospital and doctors?
I cant turn to a bus driver or taxi bloke and say oh excuse me could you just stop for a minute so I can go and use the toilet, then be anywhere from 2 to 20 mins!?! I have sat and thought about it all and tabacco is the ONLY luxury i have, i dont go out, i dont go clubbing or drinking, no cinema, no meals out no nothing!! so i cant cut petrol out.

not a care leaver, trying for DLA and yes I am disabled but not severly. No my mum has crohn's disease too and she lives with my dad and sister and 1 toilet. Doesn't work out too well. :D

Then you are only eligible for the shared accommodation rate, I'm afraid.

Did you not check how much LHA you would receive before taking on the flat?

I cant afford a ppc, its like £102 or more, the £35 is just council tax I have to pay, the rent is £70.20 I have to pay a month. I have just moved into a council flat (1 bedroom first floor, tiny garden, tiny flat) as I have Crohn's Disease I cannot live in shared accomodation as I pick up viruses and bacteria easily so sharing a bathroom with someone or the kitchen, I would have to scrub everything before using it as I don't trust anyone else's germs (a bit OCD) and when you have Crohn's and need the loo, you don't have time to wash it! It explained I get £27 more than the government says I need to live on but it just can't be done. I sat down and worked out everything that needs to be payed and I'm only estimating water as its a water meter and god knows how much that will actually cost when the bill arrives. It goes like this a fortnight because that's when I get payed:
    £20 electric
    £20 gas
    £20 water
    £5 TV
    £30 Insurance
    £30 (sometimes more) prescrition
    £20 petrol (maybe more)
£40-£50 shopping (have to eat a special diet)
    £13 on tabacco

Thats about £210 ish, I'le maybe get a tiny bit of play there because sometimes i will spend more or less on shopping. Its soo hard and it's annoying as I am being counted as average non working under 25 year old person but I have special circumstances which no one seems to understand!!

It might not be want you want to hear, but you are better off than many who are on benefits.

I would agree with Zara33, you do not need a car and you certainly do not need tobacco. Smoking should not be considered a luxury, it is an addiction that you are better off fighting when you are young (and yes, I do smoke, so I know it is not easy to quit).

You should not be spending £20 a fortnight on water. Are you sure these figures are not monthly?

    What is your insurance for?

If you are paying £30 a fortnight on prescriptions then you need to get a PPC. You can pay for it by direct debit, you do not need to pay the whole amount at once.
    Gone ... or have I?

What insurance are you paying for?
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.
  • no, stupidly i presumed that it wouldn't be that much, i new i had to pay something as i did at my parents but that was about £10 a week. and £2 council tax. It just makes me mad. i don't understand how people are supposed to live like this. its very strange!! thanks for all the replies though. it has lead me know where and told me things i already know BUT it's nice to know people will take their time and answer me! very much appreciated :D

You can cut the prescription costs to a tenner a month, paid for 10 months out of 12 months with the PPC.

That and no tobacco will cover your shortfall.

Have you thought of getting a scooter instead of a car? It'd be cheaper to run and easier to park and pee.

my insurance is for my car. as i said in another reply i need my car. its not a simple case of luxuary its a thing i cannot live without. noone else in my family drives. Ive roughly guess £20 a fortnight on water as I use ALOT of it. I would rather have a bit too much when the bill comes than not enough (im on a meter). If i was smoking right now id properly would be in a mad house!!

I have moderate to severe Crohn's disease with colitis and i have a sero-negative arthritis which is at the moment being looked into properly. Crohn's doesn't really come under carer or mobility catagory so all i can do is keep trying for dla.

    thanks again every1
