The birthday sounds as though it was a success, and not too damaging on the old budget as well, which always helps!

And excellent news on the debt free target......keep chipping away!

Wow you've made good progress! Love the list of 10 things you made and the birthday was a bargain. Well done!

I like working out how much I've paid off the debt although as I am moving them around all the time I never actually decrease a specific card
    1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j
    2nd debt - MBNA - £6,618.52
First in many many to go - baby steps and all that!
First lump sum to go - fingers crossed!
    08/06/09 - [STRIKE]£11,497.68[/STRIKE] NOW - £9,757.75
  • In which Mrs R is in a little bubble of MSE joy......

    1. Made this month's payments. Annoyingly locked out of my Egg online statement so can't update sig but will attend to later in week. Anyway Tesco one is def now just £300 - YEAH, TAKE THAT!

    2. Given £20 by my dear papa as he won £100 on the lottery. Had seen trench coat wanted to fill wardrobe gap but was £60. Decided to wait for next 25% off day thus reducing cost to £45, keep the £20 by and thus only pay £25 myself.

    3. Coat turned out to be too big. Upside, better fitting, nicer one available £28. Found pair of jeans my size (only 5ft 2 so this is tricky!) Total spend therefore £58 but used the £10 voucher in this week's MSE email. Spend therefore £48 but this got me another £15 in vouchers - do have conditions re minimum spend but with Xmas coming, bound to use. Used the £20 from my dad, so only £28 left my bank a/c and effectively the £30 jeans WERE FREE. Did get into a bit of a lather over best cash/voucher combination to go for - could see 3 options - but worked it out in the end. This MSE's not for novices though, is it? You've got to work it all out.

    4. Came home today for further cheque for £130 from lottery/pools - same as my DP had, as he does a line (oops, not that sort) for me too. Thrilled thrilled thrilled.

    5. Had to buy DS3 new bed yesterday to save OH from meltdown induced by all stuff that gets behind old one - and got to pay for a shed to be erected (titter, there's just something about that word written down that always gets me) this week, and had to pay £88 for various central heating improvements last week - so this will be welcome. Did want to pay to Tesco but a bit selfish so, no, doing the bigger thing with it.

    6. But best of all by far, my boss today told me she proposes to make me redundant. I did volunteer some months ago, but wasn't confident, but now she has grasped the mettle and it seems MRs R could be on way by Xmas. Think will get about £12k which will keep me going for 7 months and buy me time to work out what it is should really be doing. Could go massively hardcore MSE too, do loads of undone jobs around the chez, and generally make hay whilst looking for other opps. Couldn't afford not to work at all - bottom line, need to personally bring in £1200 min per month for my share of the bills etc, but the few months of time would be such a luxury.

    7. Also off to London on Thurs for work, so always use as opp for mooching/browsing as generally get to slack off early - might as well when your fare's been paid, hadn't you?

    8. Going to cinema tomorrow with 2 free tickets - hah!

OK, so coudn't stretch to 10 items this time, but it's a good list, no? I am so very happy......

Thank you Hypno, BTD and IMD - following you and will post if this house stays quiet....

you are indeed in an MSE induced bubble of joy :j

Good news on the redundancy - it is nice to be able to "buy" yourself a bit of time - just make sure you investigate all matched betting/mystery shopping/bingo blasting opportunities in your 7 months to see if you can stretch it a bit longer!

I've not been to the cinema for yonks - in fact I can't remember the last time.......seefilmfirst always has showings when I am at work......bah!

What are you going to see? Have you got hidden pockets for sweets/drinks/popcorn to smuggle in from home?

  • Ah Hypno, so nice of you to pop in! I looked in to yours ever-so, ever-so briefly earlier - the pages turn over so quickly I only ever feel I can properly look if I have a chunk of time to spare. And I was on the verge of discovering something about a holiday when my brood descended from its evening activities - so am none the wiser but will pop back!

Is this redundancy to be my reward for 15 months now of MSE'ing? Goodness, hope so. Must have 50 surveys in my in-basket now, with no real prospect of doing - so, as you say, if didn't have a job, could put more time in to all the other MSE opps out there and eke out those oh, so precious pennies for longer.

Oh, the things could do (Dr Zeus?)....always cook old style.....darn my boys' socks whilst listening to Women's Hour (unlikely TBH, me and needles don't get on, but am loving the vision of)...snuffle out bargains at boot sales and sell them on eBay....maybe start up my small business again....attend to Mr R's needs rather more willingly than do at the mo (read into that what u you like)...start running again (mmm, maybe, actually hate it but am small and vain and middle aged, so should)...plan a fantastic and chic low end break in Paris when Mr R runs the marathon there next year...write my novel (again)....do more writing generally......get more art in my life (darling)...find more opportunities to meet buff 22 year olds (oops....) well, you get the picture

    Yours, in fantasy....

    Ah yes, my holiday :D

A friend asked if I wanted to go skiing with her......first week of the season so very very cheap. But it is in a chalet.....without children......and with someone cooking our meals for us, and providing us with unlimited wine........how could I say no? :rotfl:

And the best bit is that it will be paid for entirely with MSE-extracted cash :T

Hi Mrs R - I've been lurking for a while and just posting to say hello! I'm enjoying your diary and am mightily impressed with your achievements so far.

I hope the redunancy works out well for you - sounds like could be a real opportunity!

I know when my friend was made redundant, she made her money really stretch as she was able to supermarket shop much more efficiently and then there are the costs of going to work (work clothes, coffees, lunches, transport etc)

Hypno - much jealous about your skiing hols. I'm going to see if I can manage it this winter, I've not been for ages and I'm desperate to go!
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)
