  • OVO appear to be the cheapest, by far on all the comparison websites but I cannot find any feedback on them. Does anyone have any experience with them?

They only started signing up customers on 22 September 2009.

Bearing in mind it takes a minimum of 28 days to switch supplier, often longer, any experience will be extremely limited.

Perhaps if anyone could confirm they are actually on supply with ovo yet might be more appropriate. :)

  • Well I am supplied by ovo since the 1st October 2009. They started signing up via Energylinx (pretty sure OVO's calculator is powered by them) in late august early September time. So far pretty impressed they emailed me within a day of sign up via energy linx stating that they would be in contact with me soon to finalise dd and get final meter readings along as confirming my exit date from previous supplier (Scottish and Southern). Week later I had my letter from SSE saying there sorry to be losing me etc, did not hear much back then till about 2 days before switchover ovo asking for meter reads which supplied via the web. Got a bit of refund from SSE who were very well behaved and had no issues with them. All I can say is not had any issues. My DD with SSE was £118 per month (combined Gas and Electric) now its £102 which ties in with the % cheaper it should have been when compared with the savings claimed via the website. My DD with SSE was a bit high due to getting in arrears with them when we first moved in to our house (gas bill) and should have been more like £50 not the £75 we were being charged, so I expect once my usage has been recalibrated (they like monthly readings to be submitted so should be obvious pretty soon I don’t use as much) I would expect my DD to come down again. All in all I have not had any issues with them and so far so good.
  • Hi All,

I just wanted to let folks know that I too am now with Ovo (switched from SSE). I moved almost as soon as their service went live at the end of September. The process has been very smooth and I still have electricity and gas :-) Also I do like what they stand for and the fact they are not one of the big 4!

Like a number of others I was a little confused with the direct debit amounts. I used to have a DD of £100 with SSE but this is now £105 with Ovo. As they said this is due to higher usage over this period and will drop after winter - can't complain as their tariff saves me about £200 a year (about 20%). The big 4 will have to do some serious price cutting (not looking likely) before this tariff is challenged!

All the best all as you find the best deal.

    Cheers - Jon

Good to know! After a lot of pondering I switched to OVO last Friday and I'm eagerly waiting for the process to go through since I'm paying SP's standard tariff in the meantime... Difficult to assess if not worth switching to SP's cheaper in the meantime and pay the 50pounds penalty so I have not done it.
We also had monthly fixed payments with SP and are usually in GROSS credit. Ovo said they refund credits due every six months, which sounds better.

Ovo defiantely seem to have a very competitive price, and might well be worth the switch. Thigns to consider are as the new guy how well are they equipped to deal the problems that can and do occur in the supply market?

Also anyone remember Ebico and Atlantic? More new guys who lept into the market last and now? are practically nowhere as their prices have continued to rise. Hopefully Ovo won't go the same way -- just food for thought!

Doubt it as they only offer fixed price tariffs for a start and Atlantic and Ebico are still going strong, Ebico's numbers are steadily growing, not ideal for everyone and they actually admit that (a friend of mine phoned them, gave them his usage and they said they wouldnt be the cheapest for him and advised him to check on a comparison site!)

Why do you keep posting this about atlantic and ebico? what have you got against them?
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Nothing at all actually, they both have respectably high customer service rating - they just happen to be the perfect example for the point i'm making. Started out strong, started out bing the cheapest provider by a long shot and now as you ay by their own admission no longer are.

If Ovo go the same way you'll see my cite them in future posts too don't worry.

No idea. I suspected the new user was just posting in an attempt to deliberately incite a negative response from joining, and when Mynewt posted the similar comment a couple of days back, that confirmed it.

Adding the user to my ignore list soon solved that minor nuisance :D
(although, unfortunately, I still suffer seeing the odd one when another user quotes it :()

Way to go Premier!! You keep ignoring people that you don't agree with.

I'm not here to incite anything i've migrated over from the moneysupermarket forumns where I use the same screen name. (so go on over and take a look at the advice i've offered there on the utility forumns) I've simply come to offer some help and support where possible as I work in the energy industry so would have a good working understanding of how best to deal with certain problems, what pitfalls to avoid and so on.

Unfortuantely on both sites there are too many people that think they know what they're talking about and too few that actually do! Premier is a good example of the latter.

But if like premier you wish to ignore me by all means please go right ahead, as the saying goes you can lead a horse to water....
