  • the vent and moan threads used to be seperate from the compliments threads - I think there was so little going on in the praise threads that the 'powers that be' decided they could lump them all in together (personally I preferred the old way - I enjoy a good moan and didn't get distracted by other people's good experiences!)

Its very rare anyone will contact an organisation about a good experience only bad. I make a point of contact organisations where people go that extra mile for that exact reason. Who goes on these forum to say anything nice about what people have done? Its only to cry that they had no tomato sauce in Morrisons to put in their bacon sandwhich and their life was ruined by this.

hi stonk, you are quite right there are plenty of idiots on here who cry over their own stupidity blaming others. i look out for the smily faces or thumbs up icons for praise threads, they are nice.

mind you, there are also plenty of real vents on here, so i think the whole section is aptly named.

All people who work in customer services have to deal with unreasonable and sometimes bizarre complaints from customers. When such complaints are posted on here it gives those people a chance to vent their own spleen by replying to the thread.

I agree that there is a fair bit of moaning about minor stuff, but there have been some really helpful threads warning people about dodgy bed companies and scams etc. too. Plus lots of good consumer advice for people who have been ripped off.

But, yeah, it's not really worth posting to complain that it's too hard to get the lid off your Muller Light, and it can detract from the serious and important stuff. I might write to Viz's Letterbocks about it.
  • I like that people post on here about things that are blatently their own fault for not reading the T&Cs properly or compensation hunters or whatever, because this way people working for Customer Services might get one less whining timewaster to listen to in their day, and people will tell them how much of an idiot they're being, whereas employees of the store can't do that.
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

I recently paid a visit to this "Praise, Vent & Warnings" forum.

I have to say I feel decidedly short-changed.

Most of the material in the forum tells of negative experiences entirely of the author's own making. Correspondents seem to be perpetually incapable of reading Terms & Conditions; or feeling absolutely compelled to buy something that a reasonable person would have a choice about; or expecting their £5 watch from China to be genuine. I could go on.

On the rare occasions when an author has been on the receiving end of poor treatment, they typically make a thoroughly unrealistic demand of the population, such as not to use one of the country's largest and most successful companies, as if one minor fault by the company somehow outweighs millions of perfectly contented customers. Either that, or they receive an appropriate apology and/or compensation and then still have a whining rant anyway.

Furthermore, since the content of the forum is overwhelmingly negative, I feel that the word "praise" has undue prominence in the forum name. I suggest renaming it to "Vent, Warnings & Praise".

I really think you need to get out more.

"I could play all day in my Green Cathedral".

According to statistics if you get treated well you tell no one, if you get treated like !!!!!! you tell the whole of MSE.

So you will get nearly a 100% v 0% venting on this board.

So who treated you like !!!!!! to cause you to post on this board?? :rotfl:
