What a con!

Options
I recently paid a visit to this "Praise, Vent & Warnings" forum.

I have to say I feel decidedly short-changed.

Most of the material in the forum tells of negative experiences entirely of the author's own making. Correspondents seem to be perpetually incapable of reading Terms & Conditions; or feeling absolutely compelled to buy something that a reasonable person would have a choice about; or expecting their £5 watch from China to be genuine. I could go on.

On the rare occasions when an author has been on the receiving end of poor treatment, they typically make a thoroughly unrealistic demand of the population, such as not to use one of the country's largest and most successful companies, as if one minor fault by the company somehow outweighs millions of perfectly contented customers. Either that, or they receive an appropriate apology and/or compensation and then still have a whining rant anyway.

Furthermore, since the content of the forum is overwhelmingly negative, I feel that the word "praise" has undue prominence in the forum name. I suggest renaming it to "Vent, Warnings & Praise".

I would like to praise my vent in my bathroom, it clears the steam a treat after my shower.

Let that be a warning to you....

If you think it needs more praise, why not start threads about the good experiences you've had?
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I recently had a positive experience during a visit to the "Savings & Investments" forum. I found it to be accurately described, populated by intelligent people, and also friendly and constructive. I recommend a visit.

I think the point that is being made is that people are mostly moaning about stuff that isn't really worth taking the time to post about and wasting their lives worrying about (Morrisions running out of tomato sauce) or stupid stuff they have done which they don't want to admit is there fault so look for a scapegoat. Personally this is the only reason I come on this board. It makes me feel better about my life.

Personally I'd like to vent about 100mm cooker vents where the connecting hose is just over 100mm in diameter, so that a 100mm hole cutter doesn't cut a big enough hole :p

Slightly more seriously I can almost see where the op is coming from when people are complaining about things that were well marked as having terms and conditions (the Amazon Prime thing is an example of a long running thread where a number of people never bothered to look past the word "free", to read the rest of the line when ordering;)).

However a vent forum is sort of expected to have people blowing off steam over things.
  • It does rather keep the Victor Meldrews in one place, and allows perhaps a little more space on other parts of the board.

Also if you have had a dreadful experience you need to be able to let off a little steam and perhaps get a little help (as well as being told how silly you are and that it is all your own fault!)

And I have had some really good experiences with Sainsburys
Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!
