    Hamish wouldn`t have had to pump every last penny into property to make a fortune. In hindsight, even I could have made a tidy sum if I had known what I know now, without taking too much of a risk.

    I am simply challenging Hamish`s claims that he is, and has been rather good at predicting the property market.

    Epic fail. :wall: I should have engaged brain before typing.

    What I meant was that you have been fairly accurate, but you seem to "boast" about it somewhat. I am simply trying to suggest that if you were so confident in your ability to predict, why didn`t you use it to your advantage ?

    You may say that there is a risk, but how can there be if you are so good at predicting the market. Or maybe you have been a tad lucky (did you really know that Gordon and Alistair would act as they did ?).

    He has. From what I know he has bought a house to live in (rather than rent) and owns one that he rents out or has a second home, I can't remember. Thus, he is taking advantage of what he thinks will be rising prices, amongst other reasons for owning I imagine.

    Because no one can predict a market 100%, or even close to that. Any sensible investor would, presumably, angle their portfolio towards assets that they feel are going to rise, or provide a good income, depending on your goals. The sensible investor would also then hedge against this by having other money in a wide variety of other assets to counter-balance the risk.

    Hamish has said he has 75% of his wealth in property, which seems a high percentage to me. But then Hamish seems more bullish about property than me, so that's fine.

    To make the point again, I like the look of India over the next few years. So I have money in India, and a bit more money that I had in there last year. But am I so sure that I'm selling my car, remortgaging my house and sticking hierlooms on eBay so that I can throw everything at Indian equities? Of course not, because that's how fools invest. Just look at someone like Asheron who posts on here and said once that something like 50% of his income and 95% of his portfolio is invested in silver because he's that bullish about it. Anyone with that type of approach will get their fingers burnt at some point. Hamish has 75% of his wealth in property so if property falls considerably, so will his wealth. I would say that he is 'putting his money where his mouth is'.
