Sky+ Problems

Hi
Hope somebody can give me some advice please?

I have had Sky+ for 2 years, no problems so far. Last week my box has been playing up. It doesn't always record things and I often get the message that the channel I want to watch is having technical difficulties. It is doing really strange stuff, like for example, I had it set to record X Factor last night, the red R is next to X Factor in my planner, but it isn't recording it. I'm also getting failed recording messages due to power cuts (not had any) and clashed programmes! I'm not sure if this is related to the bad weather that we've been having, but its getting very annoying! Another thing i've noticed is there is no background music when i'm searching through the TV guide, its silent!

Any ideas or suggestions as i'm getting fed up of my fav programmes not getting recorded.

Many thanks
Janninew

Is your box showing both inputs have signal? Check in Services - System setup - signal test
  • I'd had my Sky+ box about a year when it started doing the same thing, it would say it was recording and wasn't and would just completely freeze as well. I contacted sky and they said they would try and fix it over the phone if not an engineer could come out the next day, they managed to fix it over the phone with me doing various things via the remote and typing in codes, and it has been fine ever since. So I would suggest giving Sky a call, they were very helpful :D

Thanks for that! Did Sky say they would charge you if they came out?

Is it a Thompson box by any chance? If so it sounds like the PSU is failing, a known problem with the Thompsons (both plus box and HD boxes).

    Hi Pokerlad
How do I know what make it is? I can't see any writing on the actual box, it just says Sky+ on it, I can't see a name?
