  • Inquiries on your credit report can indicate your risk as a borrower. Too many inquiries might mean that you’re taking on too much debt or that you’re in some kind of financial trouble and are looking for credit to help you out. Several inquiries can reduce your credit score.
Depending on how much information you have in your credit report, an additional inquiry might not affect your credit score at all. On the other hand, if you have a short credit history without a lot of accounts, an additional inquiry could cause your score to drop by a few points.
Credit report inquiries will remain on your report for two years, but only those made within the last year are included in your credit score calculation. The most recent inquiries have the most effect on your score.

  • How do people keep their motivation levels up and keep chipping away at their debts?

I can feel my motivation going so I would really love some tips to keep my motivation up. I don't think it's got to the stage where I will go and have a splurge but I desperately don't want to there - been there a few times already. I have sold everything I can and cut down in lots of places but until my next payday, my debts won't be shifting south..

What can I do to keep myself motivated?

I know how you feel  Have updated my total this morning after getting my credit card statement online - and it still looks massive! Even though I am paying £400 a month (a big chunk of my salary :o) it still looks never ending

Social work.. challenging but very rewarding. Well done!! I hear it was really difficult getting into uni this year - 7 students for every place!!

Have often thought about dropping a brand but isn't there a huge difference in the way food tastes if you do. I can definitely tell the difference in the coffee I drink the one time I did drop a brand. How did you find it?

Look at the boards on here that deal with specific shops. e.g. Lidl. There is a list of things that people rate. If you really can taste the difference between things, then you will make yourself miserable by eating something that you don't like, and then you might splurge to make yourself feel better!!!
I buy fish, Olive margerine, jam, vegetables and occational other things from Lidl as the first 2 are actually better quality than the main brands. I don't like Netto stuff, but other people do.
Look at the stardrops thread; saves you a fortune in cleaning materials.
Also read the whole of the Old style money saving thread. Again some of them won't apply to you, but they are worth a read.
As someone has already mentioned, start doing surveys. Not a fortune, but gives you vouchers for treats and keep you sane!!

I think I tried doing surveys a few months ago but as I wasn't really seeing any results, it died out. Maybe I should look at it again. Are there some survey sites which are better than others, which are likely to result in something??

I tried a bingo site yesterday and I did make a winning but I don't want to be gambling my cash in this manner.. besides I think you have to be really strict with yourself as well.

Think I will definitely take a look at Aldi/Lidl.. have been meaning to for a while now..

    Thanks for the suggestions...

It's horrible.. I just wonder how I will keep going at the debt-busting until my DFD. I will go nuts. I think the biggest shock for me was spending money as I wanted to pre-LBM and then going to quite a strict money saving lifestyle post-LBM. When I think of how different my spending was before, I get quite annoyed as if I had even spent half the attention to my spending then as I am now, I wouldn't be in this mess. I know I have no-one else to blame but it's awful knowing that nearly a third of my income is servicing debt at the moment. Any overtime I do goes towards the debt as well.

Sorry if it sounds like I am moaning but I think I just needed to vent a little.

The scratchcards on some of the bingo sites are really worth doing (only the free ones of course). I've averaged £10 a month this year from scratchcards and that's not too bad considering it takes less than a minute per day to log on and do the scratch card.

Surveys, you have to stick with them. It can take ages but the way I see it is what else would I be doing right now, I'd be sat randomly browsing the internet so ten minutes or however long answering questions is not taking me away from something vitally important. It's not going to make your fortune but anything you get is a bonus

Can you recommend any scratchcard sites - tried virgin yesterday which was good but can't withdraw money for 72 hours - will be going towards paying off a credit card. It was a nice feeling thinking that something was on my side for once..

I do Virgin and Butlins Bingo (butlins is good because you get two goes on a sunday). A lot of the bingo sites are run by the same company so you can't have accounts with all of them. I think there was a thread in the Up Your Income section about which ones are the best.
  • Do you get free attempts with both virgin and butlins??
