I was luckily saved from an ebay disaster by a very kind and honest ebayer, who informed me that the piece of glass I had found at a car boot and listed was in fact very rare and a museum quality piece worth 4K.

In return, I donated £500 to a charity of the kind ebayers choosing as he didnt want anything himself.

nice to hear there is still some honest people out there

  • I bought a Karen Millen jacket in the charity shop to resell, having had a piece of luck with a Karen Millen dress the previous week which gave me a profit of £50. Spotted the jacket, it was priced at £20. In my firm conviction that 'All Karen Millen stuff goes for huge prices' I bought it. Two months and lots of listing fees later, I've JUST managed to shift it for a fiver :(
No, Mr A, that is NOT 'Great news'!!:D

    Wombling totals: Oct = £243.32 - £93.32 over target!
Nov Wombling Tally: £27.36 so far... behind target :(

A printer I sold that I stupidly guessed the postage on. So I ended up losing on it. I now weigh everything at least 3 times! Also a mini disc player that I stupidly put to low a BIN price on. It went for about £14 when all the ones that went to auction averaged around £40! Lessons learn't

I SOLD A COLLECTION OF RARE CLASSIC CAR ITEMS (ALFA ROMEO GTV) BUMPERS, TRIMS, HANDLES, LIGHTS, BADGES & VENTS ETC... THEY ALL WENT FOR 99p!
THE BUYER TRAVELLED A LONG WAY TO COLLECT AS WELL.

ALSO SOLD A LOAD OF STAMP COLLECTING BOOKS (VERY HEAVY) AND UNDERESTIMATED THE POSTAGE, ENDED UP COSTING ME ABOUT £7.00 MORE THAN I MADE IN TOTAL.

I was genuinely shocked at the honesty, especially when their information proved to be accurate, hence why I offered them £500 for their profitable advice, cant quite remember what I paid for it, but was less than a pound.

I sold an iPhone 2G last year for a friend as they didn't have an ebay account for around £250. It sold and I posted it and received confirmation from the buyer and positive feedback in ebay. Thinking everything was fine, I trnsferred the money to my friends bank account and (stupidly!) threw away my Special Delivery receipt. 3 weeks later Paypal withdrew the money from my account and refunded it to the buyer saying the buyer hadnt authorised the payment. After weeks of phone calls with Paypal I gave up trying to get my money back.

When I told the friend who I'd sold the phone for, they never offered to give me the money back!!! Im still £250 down to this day.

I learnt 3 things from this experience.

    1) Never sell anything for anybody else on your ebay/paypal account.
    2) Never throw away your Special Delivery receipt. I've still got every receipt since this incident (some from 18 months ago).
    3) Paypal are the worst company ever. I'd probably do a little dance if they ever went bankrupt!

I agree with points 1 or 2 but why point 3? You would have been completely OK if you hadn't thrown away your SD certificate.

Not when you are a buyer!!!!

I buy loads on Ebay, but only because of the security offered by Paypal.

I know I was part to blame as I threw away my SD receipt but the fact that the I received emails from the person who purchased it saying thanks for such a speedy delivery and also positive feedback in ebay should surely have been considered by Paypal. They didnt seem to care about this and I would have thought that this surely showed proof that I had posted the item to the address given by Paypal.
