I've read the thread about your best bootsale finds and I'm now curious to see if you've ever had any really bad sales....for example sold as buy it now not realising its worth...
I have to say I have been pretty lucky ....i think my worst was a brand new pair of Lacoste trainers worth £75+...in the spring but it turned into a rare red hot day and i can only assume everyone was out enjoying it as i had 30 watchers and they sold for the measly sum of £4......you win some you lose some!

I sold a HB book club edition or a Pratchett book, wasn't really expecting any bids.
I got one from Australia and I don't think I even broke even once it was posted... think the sold price was 99p...My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I sold a beatiful old bronze figure to a buyer in France.
It went for a lot of money, I packed it so well that the parcel was double the size it needed to be and I heard nothing from the buyer for over a month until he emailed to tell me it had arrived broken.
He sent me photos of the damage and the state of the packaging - it honestly looked as though a wild elephant had got hold of it.
I had to refund him as he started a PayPal dispute immediately without even talking to me first

My list of disasters would be quite extensive. I've often misjudged a market just after I have bought stock and ended up with a lot of unsold items. I've also completely messed up postage and I accidentally sold a jogging suit to the uS for around £5 but forgot to change the default postage settings and had the buyer pay around £1 postage when it actually cost nearer £7.
Oh and books, listed one on Greenmetropolis as Amazon was 'down' as I thought it was just a £3 paperback. It sold immediately and out of interest I checked on Amazon to find it was super rare , high in the rankings and selling for around the £50 mark. I sold a book today for £30, a quick look shows 7 other copies from £70-£300. probably mine only sold because it was cheap..but part of me thinks..why did I not notice the market had moved so much?

I sold a few tiny things - I packaged them using recycled packaging and put the postage cheap.
But it was slightly too big, so it was a packet instead of a large letter grr! Just a few mm too thick! Made a loss on 2 things there.0 -
I sold some hi-fi and casually put £14.99 for Parcelfarce, it actually cost £40!
Another hi-fi item, I couldn't find a completed sale to gauge the price an BINed it at £19.99, which sold in minutes - always suspected I'd mispriced that.
Sold some speakers for £7.99, wish I'd just kept them to put plants on for that money.
Another one, sold a laptop after spending hours carefully reinstalling Windows XP and downloading all the updates then Parcelfarce lost it (someone in the PO stole it IMHO). Got the money back, but not the time.0 -
I use to start all my auction items at 1p and have a mix of auction and buy it now. I use turbo lister for all my listing. Some how I managed to list an item at 1p buy it now! It was a regular customer who brought is so I didn't really have much choice but to sell it. I now check all the listings after they have been uploaded!0

I recently got a free game with my new pc, the game retails for about £20. When it sold it went for 99p.
However, reading over the previous horror stories in this thread makes me feel a better about my 'disaster' though! Puts things into perspective for me!!0 -
i have undercharged on a few things postage wise. box of kids wooden blocks that sell for around £10. finished at 99p auction and put £7 as postage as was heavy but box wasnt big and ended up paying £10 for postage! they did give excellent feedback though!
also mis spelled a designer jacket, cost me around £200 and it sold for £6 :-( own fault there though) just have to learn from my mistakes0 -
I was luckily saved from an ebay disaster by a very kind and honest ebayer, who informed me that the piece of glass I had found at a car boot and listed was in fact very rare and a museum quality piece worth 4K.
In return, I donated £500 to a charity of the kind ebayers choosing as he didnt want anything himself.0
