Tesco blueberries

It may not be hair - its possibly fibres from a sack or basket that the fruit may have packed in. Although its unpleasant its really not a huge problem and its unlikely that the retailer/supplier will bother with an enquiry. Its a bit different to finding bits of metal/screws etc (or, as I did once - a chunk of blue plastic piping inside a jar of mincemeat!). In those cases the supplier might well be concerned if it looked as though bits were falling off their equipment!

In your case, I would probably not even have bothered going back to the store - just removed the fibre/hair and given the berries a good wash.

What I think is far more unpleasant is this ongoing habit of so many people being so rude in their responses whenever somebody asks questions like this this one. Even if you think the OP is making a mountain out of a molehill, politeness (or keeping your mouth shut if you can't manage that!) costs nothing.

    Thankyou :j

This is an open forum and there will always be different views on questions asked. Just because people maybe aren't as tactfull or helpfull as you think they should be doesn't make them wrong, what good would it be if everyone just agreed with everything that was said or just said what the OP wanted to hear?

    !!!!!! - Talk about OTT!

It's a hair, not a piece of glass, a deadly disease or a killer spider!

Either take them back for a refund or simply wash the blueberries and eat them. I'm sure the insects that have been in touch with the blueberries would have been more likely to kill you than a hair!

but I wonder if she was served by an educated shop assistant who knew how much change to give? or how much to charge per kilo... ;)

  • Both Environmental Health and Trading Standards deal with issues relating to the sale and supply of food.

In this instance, if anyone finds a 'foreign body' in food they purchase, they should report it to their local Environmental Health office, as this is an area that they deal with. Trading Standards deals with food composition and labelling.

Therefore contact your local district or borough council.

    Hope this helps.
  • I would go straight to A and E and have a stomach pump, them blueberries are dangerous if you do not treat them with care. Have you not seen the FSA's website on Barbeques!

Oh I most certainly can :) But give me sarcasm over satire any day...

Maybe that's why they tried to overcharge me. They may charge more for an apple with a hair attached... :D
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I thought I found a "foreign body" in my Big Mac, turned out to be the meat...

Its not the differing views that I find a problem - its the way in which people express those views! Some of it (not necessarily this thread) is worded in a patronising, insulting manner and there is no need for it. As I said before, politeness costs nothing and its possible to disagree without resorting to insults (such as casting aspersions on posters intelligence, way of life or their expectations) or bad language.
