  • on Ds (will be 2 weeks off 8) we will prob spend about £150 ish
on Dd (who will just have turned 2) we will prob spend about £40 including stocking

they both have their birthdays 2 weeks either side of crimbo and we spend more on birthdays than on christmas as i dont want them to think that its all 1 celebration.

My monster will be four months old at Christmas.

    She isn't getting anything :rotfl:

Family will no doubt spoil her rotten, so I don't see why we should add to the lunacy.
Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
    Three gifts left to buy

That doesn't seem very fair? My mum always makes sure to treat me and my sister exactly the same. Even if she helps out one of us as a one-off, like once she spent a couple of hundred on my sister, I can't remember what for but it was to help my sister out with something, think maybe her hoover or washing machine broke or something. And my mum gave me the same amount in cash so that we were treated equally.
  • how will they know? my daughter will only be 2 and doesnt even know what money is.

she is getting (well what I have got so far)
Little people house with all accessories
    Little people stable all accessories
Little people train station/track all accessories
the above amounted to £10:80! and will actually ahev more 'bulk' than all of DS pressies.

The fact is the toys that she will adore i have managed to pick up very cheaply and to buy more expensive/extra toys that she wont play with as much is sheer madness. If I had children closer in age then yes I would work to keep it even, this isnt how it is going to be all their lives just how it is this year, anything i save will probably be spent on buying her some winter boots/coat as bizarrly I can pick up v cheap coats for DS but ones for dd which are not puffa style are always mor expensive. (why is that?? I got myself a pair of fuggs the other day for £5 yet in the same shop DD's fuggs were £6??? mental lol)

Liek I said Im all for fairness but Im going to enjoy the years where she isnt going to be comparing what she has to her brother.

seems perfectly fair to me! Can't understand why your mum would give you a couple of hundred pound just because she helped your sister out, thats not fair on your mum, your sister may have needed it but you didn't!
Gifts for a two year old and gifts for an 8 year old are pretty different price wise, I have an age gap between my children and they don't get the same amount spent on them it evens out eventually, I just make sure they have the same number of gifts.

This year they are having a joint main present a 3 in one games table for £100 (bargain) and will have some other gifts probably star wars and lego themed as this is what they both like. Will watch the pennies but won't go mad on either of them.

I bought my little boy the little people house years ago and it's had so much play over the years - all my children have loved it. The train as well is fabulous.

    She's a lucky girl!

Do you do Chirstmas stockings? If so, are you collecting the Daily Mirror Lego Star wars kits this week? They'd be good for stocking fillers.

  • Hi Mr Cow, yes thanks have started collecting the vouchers to send off, only problem is because it has been so heavily advertised, oldest DS got his pocket money out and asked if we could go to town to WH Smiths so that he could buy two copies of the paper so that he could get a set for him amd his brother :D. How could I resist such kindness, so they will be having lots of star wars battles come christmas.

He has his eye on the republic cruiser, have already said he is going to have to save his money for that as Father Christmas can not spend that much on one toy!

My parents would never allow my sister and i to compare costs of gifts and i have never let my kids do it either. It all evens out over the years and i would rather give both my kids something (within reason) they really want - if one costs £20 and one costs £100 so be it.

Now my sister and i are adults it's by the by - she and her OH are extremely well off whereas my financial history is slightly 'ahem' chequered - my parents have been happy to help me out as i have needed it and my sister hasn't had a problem with it either. It's not the money that's important - it's the relationships
