    It's a nice idea, and you think it will make you happy, but it won't. The novelty will wear off, and unexpected bills will come flooding in, and you'll realise you are out of your depth.
    PN is a special case - a product of a generation that offered huge and yet restricted opportunities. A kind of free agent. An education system that let women be nurses, teachers or secretaries and the norm was to marry the decent guy. Down the line after a period of silly HPI she has a nest egg from the HPI, a lifetime of jobs she was probably better than, the decent guy isn't around and it's kind of her time only in a society focused on the child or the ideal couple..... the demographic that isn't on any political agenda who takes care of themselves....... this isn't a naive 20 year old who will be shocked by the winter gas bill

    If you're gonna get some LHA towards it, then make sure u tell them you suffer stress and you need the therapeutic sounds of the sea to stop you from dying, therefore you need full rent amount :D

    I wasn't suggesting PN was naive or young, but i wouldn't commit to such a huge portion of my (non secure/consistent?) income to the rent.

    I'm off the grid, so to speak. I keep my nose clean, live frugally, fill out a tax return once a year and send a cheque off... don't want them snooping further.

    But I suspect she knows what is in the bank... income isn't the only factor when and how to use capital (capital built up in odd emotional/sacrificial ways) is a strong factor here...

    I suspect there are far more of you than register... I have several family members who could be you or would have been but for twists of fate - the baby boomer (slightly later) education/HPI situation has given your demographic some degree of autonomy but restricted opportunity too - I guess it's your time to decide payback,,,
  • Did your housemate ever return from the police station - or is it a different shaker?

    No he didn't return but I bumped into him this summer, two and a half years later. He was sent down for fraud, and had been on the run. :eek: Nice to know that landlords do adequate checks on their tenants for other housemates. :rolleyes:

    I have to say the potential murder, police bashing down the door, HMO with non-resident LL scenario is one of the best downs of renting I ever hear..... hope things worked out for you and your pretty nurse/doctor - we are now more and life worked out ok ;)

    Personally, in your situation, I would go for it.

    One point towards it is safety, much safer to smoke on your balcony than go outside in the dead of night where undesirable could be (been there, done that and it is a little bit eek - the curse of the insomniac).

    Another point would be extra room and space for you to spread out in, plus less cooking smells in the bedroom.

    Minus points would be the extra outlay that would involve each month, the getting to know a different area, how the new building rules work (may be different from your studio) and the upheaval and how that would impact on your speshulness with the change of surroundings (not sure if you get this but it is a common feature with my two and their speshulness)

    Normally I would advise someone not to do it with such a high ratio to income but you have worked for it, you are reasonably comfortable financially (although this is for another property) and only you know what you can really afford to do....oh and you only live once, why spend it in perpetual pergatory when you could have even just a year living a more comfortable life.
    We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
    Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
