4 Speeding fines in a row could lose my job & house!
Hello everyone,
I hope there is somebody out there who can help me in this situation. I am a window fitter and I have been travelling up and down the motorways for over 12 years. I have never had a speeding fine in this time.
I woke up Thursday morning to find a 3 point and 60pound fine letter for doing 61mph where roadworks had just been put up on the M5 (50mph). Ok, I'll sort that out, this morning I found 2 more for the same offence (64 and 71).. 9 points! The worrying thing is that I have been driving up and down the same motorway all week. I know I have driven 60 mph during this time. Can I get banned without a ticket being issued as a warning?
If I had recieved a ticket for the first offence I would not have touched 45 let alone 50! I am very worried, I am the only earner with 2 kids, if I get banned I lose my job and house.. please help any advice welcome.
Thank you..

If you reach 12 points you could be banned for a while - the Court wil decide, you may be able to plead exceptional hardship etc to avoid a ban.

They may be able to help but I have read somewhere that having 12 points is not an automatic ban it depends on the circumstances so if you go to court to defend the offences judge may have a good day or a bad one so you have to take your chance.
I would just pay up and keep it out of court just incase it costs you more money in fines and a licence.0 -
If you're offered a speed awareness course for the first offence, take it. That way you may only end up with 9 points for the other offences. If the fourth one does come to a fixed penalty, I'd get a good solicitor quickly.
So weren't the round red 50 signs not big enough or something?0 -
Dunno how you will be able to get out of speeding in the same place three times - you come across as genuine, so that might help.
In general, I try and put on the cruise control in roadworks - it saves the hassle.
(I find the people who slow down at each of the average speed cameras quite amusing.)0 -
i was once done for going through a red light. I sent them a letter to say that I had to send my licence away for endorsement in another area and I will be in touch as soon as it gets back. I have never heard anything since and this was well over 2 years ago!

I think it would be wise for you to contact the DVLA and check the status of your licence.
For all you know, it may have been revoked.0 -
i feel so sorry for you. whilst i don't condone speeding losing your licence and your livelihood over this seems so out of proportion to the actual 'offence'. i know people who have been caught drink driving who have a similar result but that seems a lot more knowingly criminal. a case of speeding like this can just be a mistake.

For something with as big a potential impact as this might have on your life, it is not the time to be seeking well meaning (mostly) but amateur advice on the internet. Now is the time to get proper professional advice, even if you have to pay for it.0

Call in on Peppido for some advice by all means but get onto a solicitor ASAP. See if you can get this negotiated to one offence and 3 points. Spped camera's are meant to be for safety not revenue raising robbing people of their lively hood.
I got up to 6 points earlier this year. Came to the conclusion the only way I can be (fairly) sure of not getting caught is to watch speed limits all the time and be in the habit of it. It is impossible to be 100% I think.0
