Do You Make Your Bed Every Morning?

The article suggested fluffing the pillows a bit, straighten out the bottom sheet and fold down and leave the top sheet and duvet and/or blankets and of course, weather permitting, open up the windows for a bit. The general idea (although this was supposed to be scientific) being that you spend 6+hours in the bed at night and it should be left "open" to air during the day. So thus began my not making the bed - well, unless someone is going to see the bedroom :rotfl:
Blimey all these housekeeping/hygiene threads are starting to make me feel like a slattern:rolleyes:0 -
Well Thriftlady - in my book the idea of a top sheet with the duvet means the duvet cover keeps "clear enough" that I can just wash said duvet cover annually - as the top sheet gets whipped off and washed at the same time as bottom sheet. So I regard that as laboursaving.
My bed is currently made up of bottom sheet, top sheet, blanket (encased in old duvet cover to keep it clean - so I never need to clean that), summerweight duvet (in cover), autumn weight duvet (in cover) and bedspread over the lot. I throw off layers from the top down - as I get too hot. To me - thats the easiest way to ensure minimum cleaning and the temperature I want in t'bed.
Make the bed:eek: Whats that pray tell? Best excuse in the world not to do so - knowing that throwing all the bedding back airs the bed - hence I only ever make it properly when I change the sheets and if I think anyone else might see it.0 -

We have a throw over the whole of the bed as the duvet covers and pillow cases aren't the right colour and I didn't want to have to spend more to replace them when they are still OK. If I didn't make it I'd go mad as I hate to see it looking untidy <OCD alert> LOL!
Likewise, Bitsy Beans. I make the bed, on automatic pilot; as soon as I'm out of it, I air it when I change the sheets, the throw is there both for the right colour and protecting the duvet cover from the cat who loves to lounge on the bed. I wash the duvet from time to time, as well as the pillows. The peacefulness of the bedroom being always tidy is great - and both DH and myself have excellent immune systems and not a hint of allergy, so I think I'll stick with it."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -

Ahh...but I dislike the struggle to get the duvet snugly back into its cover....(king size!) - so I think its easier to just have to change the sheet.
Hot flushes are STILL  in evidence here chez ceridwen too - so its handy to be able to throw back everything except just a topsheet as well if required.0 -
I never make my bed
its nothing to do with airing it although thats what I tell people, I'm just a darn lazy !!!!!!.
Whoever mentioned bedd bugs they don't actually live in your bed tahts dustmites. Bed bugs just climb into your bed at night to bite you "You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
I was told that you need to let the bed air for at least twenty minutes when you get out of it. So, I get up, throw the duvet over the end of the bed to air, open the window and then have a shower, eat breakfast, faff about and get dressed, and then make the bed last thing before I leave for work. It always feels nice and fresh. I really hate coming home to an unmade bed - it makes the room feel messy and it's not nearly as inviting. That's one of the things that niggles me about flylady, the way she tells you to get out of bed and make it straight away.0

I sometimes air my bed but don't go out of my way to. I do change my whole bed clothes - duvet cover, bottom sheet & pillowcases - once a week. As far as I know, that's above and beyond what most people do so I am happy with that!
When i change the bed it gets aired for a whole day - and the feather mattress and duvet get aired too.PasturesNew wrote: »I don't have a bed, but when I used to I'd fold the top half of the duvet down over the bottom end, so most of the bed was exposed all day.
At night I'd get in bed, then reach down to pull the duvet back over me. Simples.
At the risk of sounding silly, what do you sleep in?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I used to do this and started to do it again recently (not sure why I stopped really??). You are supposed to hoover your mattress aswell, something else I used to do but rarely do now haha.
Did anyone watch Kim and Aggie yesterday? They took a mattress to a town centre and then covered it in 2 massive jars of dead skin and then 2 massive jars of sweat - it was absolutely disgusting - I was shocked!!!0 -
I have the warm at night problem too sometimes when I forget to take me pills! I get round the problem in the Continental way...having two single duvets instead of one big 'un. That way we each have covers according to our needs, my summer one most of the year and dh with his snuggly one for most of the year.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
