I plump the pillows and give the duvet a good shake then fold it down so the bed airs. I'd love to be able to use a sheet underneath the duvet but my OH is too tall and his feet feel trapped.

I give the mattress a good hoover once a month too.

yuo know i've never considered hoovering the mattress but maybe i should. i do also wash my pillows whenever i wash my duvet so perhaps i'll work hoovering the mattress into that too... i dont' have bad dust allergies but they're bad enough, why tempt fate if theirs an easy way to avoid it ;)

At the risk of sounding silly, what do you sleep in?
I have a studio with a sofa bed. But there's no room to get the sofa bed out (which would mean dismantling and moving the PC etc) and unfolding it all and making the bed; then in the mornings stripping the bed down and folding all the sheet/duvet etc away. And I am short. So I just sleep on the 2-seater sofa as it is.

Yep I air our bed everyday, windows open , duvet flung off so that mattress and pillows are aired for the whole morning, then make the bed around midday.. I change pillow cases and sheet every 4/5 days and duvet cover every 10 days . My duvet cover gets a little grubby after 10 days even though we shower all the time so what it would be like after a whole year  I cannot imagine , I'd have to chuck it in the bin... It must get sooooooooooo dusty if nothing else... I get the duvets cleaned when I change from Summer to Winter Duvet so each one gets cleaned once a year then I buy new every 3yrs or so...

Opening the windows every day is a luxury for people who work full-time. With the weather as it is in England and many people leaving home about 7am ish and not back until the early evening (7ish), it's just not a practical thing to do.
  • We get up and I open the window wide so that I can leave the bed a couple of hours to air before I make it up again.

you dont HAVE to leave the windows open to air the bed! its just better if you can!
  • well i have an underneath mattress protector as well as a top mattress protector, a bottom sheet, top sheet, duvet and a throw. I wash top and underneath protectors one a month with the duvet cover and hang the duvet on the line to air. I wash the top and bottom sheets once a week with the two 4 pillowcases (2 of which are pillow protectors). Ive got 6 pillows on my bed but i only use 2 2 sleep on. My boyfriend thinks ive got OCD as i wont let him sleep on the other ones as they match my throw and i dont want to mess them up:rotfl:I do try and air the bed but am at work full time and i cant leave my windows open or on a latch. But i must admit theres nothing better than getting into a crisp white clean bed with freshly line dried bedding is there.:heart2:

I never make the bed up just straighten and smooth out the bottom sheet, puff up the pillows and fold the duvet back neatly.

Like coralred I have a mattress protector and pillow protectors which are washed monthly, mattress is hoovered monthly and also turned.
