How to remove sticky stuff on windows?

Options
Can anyone tell me how to get the sticky stuff off the windows after removing the stick on cling film? Have tried spraying with WD40 which I read somewhere but it didn't work.

You can buy "Sticky Stuff Remover" which works on most things.

get a proper window scraper, the one with a stanley blade at the end.
you can replace the blades with the usual stanley type blades.
the pound shop sell em too.
    Get some gorm.

Oops - I have just told hubby off for using a stanley knife thing on the windows. I just know he will scratch the glass!

Thanks, I might have a go at it myself - then if I scratch it I can blame him.

Have you tried methylated spirit? Usually one of wd40, white spirit or meths with a bit of scraping (preferably with something plastic rather than metal!) and elbow grease does the job. Could also try acetone (found in nail varnish remover) but avoid contact to the window frame.

  • Good afternoon: lighter fluid...a cheap but potentially flammable/toxic solution.

The window is a Velux one. I removed the cling film because it was going brown and was actually getting burn't by the sun. I think that might be why I am having trouble removing the sticky stuff - it is baked on.

Persevere with it and it'll come off eventually! Had similar prob i commented on the other day in removing sunbaked velcro backing from a door frame which took me ages. Saucepan scourer might help (the sort for non-stick pans preferably!).
