Does anyone know if FD are allowing the extra cash ISA allowance, in October, for the over 50's, to the fixed rate ISA's opened in April this year?

Just what I wanted to know. Thanks very much:beer:
  • May as well add in a question on this thread :) hopefully it is simple.

Just recieved my First Direct ISA pack today to open an online account (gladly reading no charge for me if I get one of them letters).
I am wanting to transfer my entire ISA savings from Abbey to First Direct, it says once I have my account I can do it, which seems fine.

So do I have to put cash into my online First Direct account to open it? (from cheque, bank etc..) and does that mean I can have my two ISA's open at the same time from two banks?

If I can have 2 ISA's open at the same time, once my FD account is acctivated online I go into my local Abbey and get them to transfer it all over into one ISA.

I would rather confirm it with you guys on here in the knowhow, rather than just going ahead and doing it all tonight and posting things off. I just found FD site and pack a little vague.

Does your Abbey Cash ISA contain ANY subscription made since 6th April 2009?

If so, you cannot pay any new money into the First Direct ISA. You simply complete First Direct's Cash ISA transfer form and they must arrange for the transfer from Abbey - you MUST NOT do so yourself.

After the transfer has taken place, you can then add any remaining balance of your £3,600 Cash ISA allowance for the 2009/10 tax year to the First Direct account.
  • Thank you for the swift help.

I just noticed I may well be in the wrong thread :(
I am applying for a Cash e-ISA, hopefully this is same.

    but
I have not paid a penny in this year.

If so, I just complete my Cash e-ISA application form (no need to pay cash in, but I can if I want to)

Then when the account is set up online I request an online First Direct's Cash ISA transfer form and fill that in and that should be it they do all the work.

    Or I am wrong :D

The account is legally a Cash ISA (what the bank decides to call it is irrelevant)

That's as I read it - they specify a minimum deposit of £1 but you will (presumably) be transferring much more than £1.

From memory, when a friend received the paperwork after applying online, there is provision in that paperwork to request an ISA transfer form.

I filled the form and sent it off by post, there is an option to request for a Transfer Form. I plan transfer my previous years Cash ISA from YBS to FD.
  • Thanks a lot, it all makes sense now

I did just notice that little box saying "Tick if you wish to transfer existing ISA, via mail out pack" (I missed that the first time I read it this afternoon!).
Says "Your account will be opened upon reciept of the funds from your current provider" so no need to put cash in then, as all my old ISA will be going in at once when I fill in the new pack.

So that is that sorted it seems, they will do all the work once I get the next pack in the mail and fill it in and send it back.

I am so used to the bank doing all this stuff for me in 20 minutes in my local branch (hence the questions :D ).

Remember that Cash ISA transfers can take up to 30 days.
