I have to agree that I prefer a strict school uniform.
If they all wear the same, it levels out the economic differences.
I know the school uniform is much more expensive than the supermarket version, but at my dd old school where the kids could wear supermarket stuff, the rich kids wore next stuff and mine wore tescos, and where teased because of this, now it has to be from the school , they are all equal and leads to much less tears for the kids. More for me as yes its more expensive, but happier kids.Always on the hunt for a bargain0 -
Takoda, that is a great idea,I'll compose the letter later and drop it off when I pick the kids up at 3.30.
I understand about everyone looking the same, and not being teased etc, but my kids really don't care, and if anyone started on my youngest.....lets just say she can easily handle herself.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

wow were the kids psychic because in my school some used to wear the school stuff some use to wear bhs stuff with labels stuck on and you could not tell the difference perhaps in the ten years since ive been at school the uniforms are being made by nike or something
it was the same with trainers we had hitech trainers and some had reeboks ( or what ever it was) and funnily enough my trainers lasted longer than there fancy trainersReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
What has wearing an overpriced, uniform made from cheap material that looks as though it would only last 6 weeks got to do with them teaching my kids.
Nothing. But making a child wear a uniform that gives them belonging to the school makes them a better person. If it doesn't then at the very least they know which school they are at when they misbehave.0 -
As far as I am aware uniform isnt compulsory at primary school level anyway .
I think sometimes schools , especially primary because they are very cliquey , like to put on a good show , but actually care very little about the basics ......or was that just the one mine went toVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
I would urge you to go in and speak to someone high up before you write the letter. calmly tell them that you simply cant afford to buy the school uniform. You may be given some discreet assistance. If you dont get the help you need then write a letter to the governing body.“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0

A secondary school maybe but I've yet to hear my DS and DD, (who are both at primary school), come home and tell me about any teasing purely because one of their friends was wearing a Sainsbury's jumper as opposed to an M&S one. Once you've got the item on, a parent would be hard pressed to tell where it came from, let alone a child.
I agree that a smart uniform helps to promote a good image for a school and logo'd items are a good idea. However, it looks like the school that the OP is talking about has shot themselves in the foot with their prices. That looks like a decent sized profit they're making there. You'd think they would have considered lowering the prices slightly, making them more accessible to all. It's wouldn't have not wouldn't of, shouldn't have not shouldn't of and couldn't have not couldn't of. Why not speak to the LEA before you compose your letter to the Head, then you will be absolutely clear on whether or not Primary uniforms are compulsory and what the LEA consider reasonable requests from the school.
However, if it is a voluntary-aided school then I dont' think it falls under LEA jurisdiction.0 -

Spoken like a true OAP...It's wouldn't have not wouldn't of, shouldn't have not shouldn't of and couldn't have not couldn't of. Geddit?0
