Special offer on ps3

My local currys has a 160gb ps3 console for £199.99, but there are a few snags :
  • there is a large scratch across the top of the unit
  • the usb charging cable is missing
  • the av cable & euro adaptor is missing
  • and the promo voucher for the 4 free downloadable games is not included.
  • the console is ex display - hence scratch
do you think this is sensible money to spend on this?

so just to clarify what's actually included :

ps3 160gb console in original box , controller , and power cord , welcome instructions

TIA!

Personally I wouldnt touch it with a bargepole

  • Our local Currys Digital had a 60gb PS3, ex-display, with just the box missing and a bit of damage to the front (scratches) for £150, and an Xbox 360, similar damage for £80... now it is shut, but is turning into a PC World...

    60GB > 160GB in value.

Considering what the 160GB gives you (which, as it's sans accesories is 80GB extra full stop) i'd say it's not worth it.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.
  • Nah, stay away. Theres the new slimline PS3 out now anyway, which is 'only' £250 brand new, so I can't see that £200 for a scratched hunk with missing accessories is worth it. I wouldn't say its particularly worth having the 160gb version, even with the generally mandatory hard drive installs that accompany most PS3 games now. I've got a basic 80gb version and I'm nowhere near filling the hard drive.
  • I wouldn't touch Currys either appalling CS hope nothing goes wrong with it then you will find out how bad they are

If something has been reduced in price because it is damaged, it's not a "special offer". It's just priced accordingly.

Although the 60GB is no longer available, it does offer the ability to play PS2 games and has also has memory card slots and 4 USB ports instead of 2.

i agree dont bother buying this for the sake of £50 which you wont really save by the time you buy the stuff that is missing. you also dont know how long it has been sat there and possibly turned on, infact it would be coz they usually have them set up with a game on that you can play in places like currys.
just get a new one and not from somewhere like currys coz their offers are usually rubbish. shop around. you can often get good offers in hmv stores and they usually let you change items in their offers if you dont like them.

i dont understand why people dont just keep their ps2's if they really want to play the games that much. the console doesnt take up anything like the amount of room all the games do. no memory card slots? well just put it onto your pc and then transfer it to a usb stick and then you can put it onto your ps3. is there really a need for 4 usb slots on a ps3 anyway? i agree it would be better to still have those things but they arent worth worrying about thats all.
