We don't even own them. Folded tea towels or kitchen towels here all the time. I feel far too clumsy with oven gloves tbh, but know others feel the same about folded towels so....to each their own. :)

Same here. Much more flexibility with a tea towel. Drives my mother spare, she's forever following me around the kitchen with the dreaded oven gloves

I'm another but I do use oven gloves for very hot things from the oven. I don't like the separate gloves/mitts but the ones which you hold each end.

I've got two black sets (Waitrose) which I put in with the dark wash.

I have ones from a well known Swedish shop ;) two separate gloves and two pot holders and wash them with the towels.

I have a set of 'joined ' oven gloves and two separate ones with dog faces, but I'm very clumsy with them , often ending with them dipped in the contents of a dish, so find tea towels easier. (One problem, though, is that my husband washes the tea towel and replaces it damp, which I find out when about to grab something hot)

I treated myself to a dog head silicone protector, rather like a puppet where you put your fingers in the jaws and it's very easy to use, but I find that it isn't very heatproof and holding on too long means burned fingertips.

How do you keep them clean? Do you wash them if so how?

what other items do you wash them with?

I'm afraid of washing them in case they lose their padding/heat protection. They really do need a wash though :o One for my frog list, I think!

I gave mine away and use the tea towel. they were brand new.. I think they are really dangerous the 2 or 3 times I have used them I have dropped burning hot food and oven trays on myself! I can't grip anything with them.. tea towels are much safer.

:) I pre-soak mine in a solution of hot water and soda crystals (to loosen grease) and then wash them at 40 with a normal washload. Come up a treat, but less so without the pre-soak. Only do it every few months, though. HTH.

I don't like the separate oven mitts but do have some traditional oven gloves which are joined together. I have never had a problem washing them nor have them lose padding - I bung them in the machine with my towels.

I usually buy a few pairs at a time when on offer, or a certain shop doubles points thingies. Bung em in the wash till they get a past it (like me)... the past it, not the bung it in the wash !
