Sounds simple but are you using a decent wash powder ? Mine usually come clean first wash 40deg with persil bio.

I think skittish has hit the nail on the head! as stains are normally food stains then the bio powders usually work well even at lower tempuratures. mine go in at 30 sometimes and the stains come right out. i prefer bio powders cos they are so useful for other cleaning jobs. have even cleaned cooker hob with a paste made of bio!

Thats exactly what I use - yikes - my stains must be from strong stuff - wonder what our stomach lining is like?
Think I will leave the oven gloves (if it happens again) to soak first before bunging in the wash.
    Thanks guys.
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!

i dont use persil bio i use aldi bio - but to be honest will chuck in a scoop of the oxifix too if i think its needed. i try not to use the hot washes as i havent the patience to wait two hours to put the washing out!
  • Yet another housekeeping thing I fail at:D I never wash oven gloves (although I do set fire to them now and again). Tea towel get washed with everything else and if they are stained they stay stained -they're tea towels ;)

My tea towels stay clean through lack of use. Leave everything on the drainer till it's dry and problem solved!
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I don't use mine to dry dishes either, but they still get dirty when I wipe my hands on them during cooking, or wipe stuff up with them or use to cover rising bread dough.

i have two oven gloves, one gets dirty, use the other and wash the original. And so the cycle continues. I always wash these and tea towels with the other 60degree stuff (towels) . My Mum told me you are not supposed to use softener on towels the other day? Confusing.

I'm sure i dont need to do a 60degree wash, but i was brought up to use this for above mentioned , and bed sheets (and usually my pjs....)
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I'm glad you said this first, just what I was thinking! I might actually chuck my oven gloves in the wash sometime soon as I got jam all over them the other day.
I have some black tea towels which don't show up any stains so I get those out if we have visitors :D.

I only dry things with a tea towel if I've run out of drying space, or need something straight away and then I always get a clean one out. I worked in a kitchen in the States briefly and tea towels were banned there as they are so unhygenic.
