Hi there,
I am registered disabled and Social Services have agreed that I should have Direct Payments to help me with personal tasks. To receive the payments (and pay someone to help me) I need to open a bank account. PROBLEM!
Nearly 3 years ago I completed a lump sum IVA but of course it is still on my credit record for another 2 years. I already had a N'wide Flex A'c (basic) so have been able to manage with that. However, they have refused to open me a 2nd one saying that is not policy. So, off I went to another 2 banks in person (HSBC and Barclays). They refused both a standard current account (unsurprisingly) and also a basic account. Now I am stuck. I tried calling a couple of other banks but got the same response. If I can't open up a new account (the payments have to be separate for audit purposes) then I can't receive the payments and get the help I desperately need. I know there is no basic 'right' to have an account but surely some bank somewhere can help? Social Services gave me a letter to give to the banks to explain why I needed the account and to confirm the guaranteed income, but they still refused.
Has anyone got any ideas where I go from here? Advice much appreciated.0
