When you get to the "how much would you like" stage it will tell you how much they would give you but only if it is a lot more than what you have at the moment. When I've applied at this point I haven't been credit checked. The amount is part of the writing above the amount box, and is normal size so easy to miss.

When I've tried applying for an overdraft and it doesn't tell me how much, I've been credit checked and can be hit or miss whether I'm approved.

Now it makes sense, as I was wondering why when I applied for an overdraft no credit check was done.

Thats just through my experience. I don't work for Natwest, but I did find that online it told me how much of an overdraft I was able to get.

I know you don't mate, just I use RBS and it was the same for me. It suggested online that I apply for upto £700 and when I applied for £100 no credit check was done. Then about a week later when I applied for an increase to £500, again no check was done.
  • you cant get any idea before you start online however call or pop in to a branch they should be able to tell you an approved limit if you have one...

Over the phone they shouldn't be telling you. Or in branch, I believe, but staff do it anyway!

Plus it is subject to status so that means that if you say it's one amount one month, it could drastically change the following month ie that it might not be available to use then since the internal credit score may have changed drastically.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
