but will it last 21 yrs?
my 3 x indesits did not cost as much as a single miele.
I think you will find they were far more expensive!
I suspect the first machine you bought 21 years ago was lets say £100 so in todays money thats the equivalent to £400. Machine 2 maybe 14 years ago for £150 that in todays money £450 then machine number 3, say 7 years ago at £200, so that would be £300 today. So add it all up, £1,050.
On the other hand you could have bought a Miele 21 years ago for £400 and it would still probably be going strong today. That's purely the financial benefits of buying a Miele washing machine. Then you would also get a far more environmentally friendly machine that would wash better, be quieter and more reliable for free!0 -
In 36 years i am on my 2nd Miele washing machine. My first ever washing machine was a Hotpoint and was constantly breaking down so bought my 1st Miele. I have a Miele dishwasher as well. Neither have any rust on them and neither have broken down.0

Going by your calculations (£100 21 years ago = £400), wouldn't that make the cost of the miele £1600 and therefore still more expensive than three cheapies?0 -

Yes you are right. On reflection I think my starting figures were wrong. In essence Miele washing machines have never really cost more than double the average price of a washing machine in any particular year but they will always last at least 3 times longer. So if you can afford one it will be the most cost effective washing machine you could buy.0 -
CK is a bottom end meile gonna be better than a mid range of another - I've seen a basic meile (don't need special functions) for just under £600...has a 5 yr gaurentee rather than 10yr whcih is the only thing putting me offPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Hi, There is no issue at all in having a bottom end Miele. All the components are exactly the same through the range. The differences as you go up the range are basically the spin speed, bigger load, better sound proofing, a few more functions and greater monitoring of the wash to improve economy.
I would always choose a bottom end Miele over a top of the range anything else because its going to last a lot longer and ultimately do a better job of washing your clothes.0 -
thanks, just need to persuade OH to part with 550 of his hard earned now.....People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

CK, have you taken a Miele apart recently?
The lower end machines are different internally and a lot of the engineers report that they are not of the same quality as the £1000 or more machines. They also tell me that the bottom end seems to fail more although that may be down to a general perception.
That said, this is information from two or three Miele dealers and a couple of service engineers. I do know they really don't like the new cheap ones introduced a couple of years ago for whatever reason.
It is notable though that the 10 year warranty is only offered on the more expensive models.
I don't know if it's true or not but someone told me they were even going to start using plastic tanks rather than steel to cut or retain the cost of the cheaper ones.
