Dent in Wing - What should I do?

Some A-hole has left a fist sized dent on my Mazda 6 passender side wing and done a runner. I am looking at my options and would like to think what people would reckon is the best(or in other words cheapest) way to go:

1. Get the work done at a body shop - I assume very expensive

2. Buy a wing from the scrappers - I have been looking round but have not been able to find any. There are some going on ebay in my car colour but will cost an arm and a leg.

3. Buy one of these off ebay :-

and get the body shop to respray it.

4. Buy the wing as in option 3 but respray it myself.

I'm leaning towards option 4 at the moment and would be interested in links to good repray guides. I would be grateful for any further thoughts though.

  • maybe try a smart repair? if the paint isnt damaged then a lot of dents can be rubbed out. i got a door dent taken out for £35 by a local guy who specialises in this kind of work.

getting a painted wing from a scrapyard is the best bet, have you tried the online ones?

The rest depends on how old the car is and how good you want it to look.

How big is the dent? Have heard of this method but don't know how good it is.

Yes I have tried looking online and as you would expect they are quite costly.

That was a very interesting piece of video. I don't have a clue where you could get dry ice from though. My car does have dents that could benefit from this technique if it does really work but it won't be effective on the dent on my wing. It is about 3 or 4 inches in radius and at least an inch or two deep and would probably need all the ice at the north pole to straighten it out.

Alas the paint has been damaged - not too deep but deep enough. What is a smart repair btw?
  • Urmm... don't know if these would work, but worked for a dent in an old fiat we had. You kind of attatch it to the dent, then 'pull' it out. Just a suggestion

  • OP, how old is the car?

If your looking at wings from a scrap yard one could assume it's of some age. In that case can you live with the dent?

All these "Smart" repairs only work if there is no paint damage and no dreasing of the bodywork.

The real issue is how valuable is the car and how car proud are you.

Scappy wing ready painted has to be the best option I think:confused:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Yep but bound to be a lot cheaper than paying a bodyshop to prep & paint a wing.

If it's anything other than a valueless runabout then don't even think about aerosols, you'd be better off keeping the dent
