Tesco Credit Card

Really Angry with my credit card tescos. The new samsung 32" came into stock today. Freemans tried to take payment of £700 but Tescos declined it though i am well within my credit limit. Tescos phoned me doing a so called security check which is how i found out they declined payment. I went balistic, a load of indians who didnt speak english very well in a call centre in india. I was told it automatically got declined as it was a large value. I was very unhappy with this as they claimed it could have been fraud. This is the second time in 6 weeks they have declined a large transaction . Whilst in the interest of security i understand but why cant they phone me before they decline the transaction. I may miss out on this now because of their incompetance. Though i spoke with freemans and they said give it 24 hours for the decline to register with them and i can pay for it again at £700 fingers crossed. But i recon i may encounter problems.
All tescos seem to do is limit them selves by declining large transactions and quote possible fraud so they dont have any liability
Grrrrr i am so annoyed

This is not right. I sell big value items every day ( hopefully ) for a lot more than £700. It comes on the machine as a referal. I then have to ring the c/c company and go through many security questions with the client. They could do this with you.
And also, no disrespect, £700 is NOT a large amount for a credit card company and I have never been challenged about any sum lesss than £1200S!!!!horpe0 -

This is what i tried to put over to the credit card company but they just turned round and said it was automatically delined so could not talk to me before it is declined. which i think is poor"Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0 -
You would be singing a different tune if someone had stolen your card/number and made the purchase which they let go through because they couldn't get hold of you to check and decline it.
I find Tesco very good and quick with their security checks. It is in fact large value and merchant combined that would have triggered the alarm, particularly if you do not normally make transactions that size and/or use that merchant. TVs and catalogue purchases are a common fraud combination.
Once your card was released, you would have been able to make the purchase instantly so there was not reason for you to have to wait 24 hours to try to make the purchase again, not least because while on the 'phone for the security check you would have authorising the transaction so it would not have failed again.0 -
I have a tesco cc and found their service to be appalling.
I put some of my new car on the card to get the points and had no problems with the £2K transaction though. So they are lying if they claim anything over what £500? £700? pound is the limit of transaction size and thy automatically refuse it.
I would call someone in the UK to help you, I have zero trust in anything the indians are telling you. It's so obviously a lie, I couldn't imagine they would try and sneak this into their t+c, it's certainly not on mine.

They are only telling you what they are told to tell, from their masters in the UK.

May I add that Tesco's Credit Card Site is worse than useless! It doesn't give anywhere near enough information about your transactions. just a balance!!!0

I haven't had this problem with my Tesco Credit Card (I currently have the Finest Platinum Mastercard and previously had the Tesco Visa Card). However, my father frequently has the problem with Lloyds TSB's Gold Mastercard. They have, on several occasions in the last few months, declined perfectly reasonable purchases of between £80 and £700 (but mostly under £500). Only on one of those occasions have they even bothered to phone him afterwards. Usually, he only hears from the seller, then has to phone Lloyds who tell him that if the seller tries again,m they will now authorise it.0

Absolutely! I can't believe I went through setting up the security information, waiting for the confirmation in the post, signing that and returning it, waiting for my online account to be authorised....eventually to log on and just see the balance!
I only did it because I asked customer services if it was possible to pay by bank transfer using online banking...."erm,...I think so...but you'll need an online account". Useless!
What I will give Tesco CC credit for is that they do offer over-the-phone payment and they're flexible on due dates IME - as long as you ring up in time and your payment's authorised there's none of this 'we have to wait until it clears' nonsense. Now CapitalOne - you can do bank transfer, but if you forget to do it in time for it to clear (5-7 days) there's no other option - they don't accept phone payments and aren't interested if your funds don't clear in time.0 -

I completely agree. Someone else on here once told me that if you have the Tesco Savings account as well, then you can see all your Tesco credit card transactions too. However, I did not find that to be the case when I used to have the savings account.
The credit card site I like, for the amount of info it gives, is Barclaycard. Unfortunately the rewards are not up to much which is why I persist with Tesco.0
