Oh wendym that is awful, at least we didn't have that to go through. The police were sympathetic and good but they couldn't really tell me anything I didn't already know or had worked out for myself. But, I appreciate their time and they didn't make me feel like I was wasting their time. The SOCO man today couldn't have been lovelier.
We will be installing an alarm though and I will be looking for DFW to make the home securer (I will look for that thread - thanks!).
Feeling a bit better now and am starting to sort things out/people coming around and stuff to quote on fencing etc but still don't feel like I have much to offer other people by way of happy positive thoughts. I keep telling myself I know I got off lightly and it could have been far worse but everytime I look at the state of my doors or the empty shelves I feel a bit sick!
Can't wait to feel back to normal!Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

LA - I'm so sorry about your break in. I can't begin to imagine how you must be feeling.
I hope you get everything sorted soon and can begin to get back to normal, although emotionally I imagine it will take some time.
Thinking of you.

I had a wobbly patch after I had finished the essential tidying up, when I wanted to wash every garment I owned, but I talked myself out of that.
It was Wimbledon fortnight, and I clearly remember deciding that I had done enough, so I made a pot of tea and got the Kit Kat I had hidden, and sat down to watch some tennis. The doorbell rang, and before I had time to reply the man from Witness Support was in my living room! He said 'how lovely! Tea and my favourite biscuit!' So I lost half my treat, and all my tennis, and had to spend half an hour listening to the most boring human being I have ever met, who after briskly asking whether I was fine, thought I'd like to hear the story of his life.
When eventually he left I wanted to cry, but I sort of saw the funny side that one of the most stressful aspects of the day was a visit from Victim Support.
The the receptionist at the Dr made me feel like some sort of drug dealer, and insisted that I would have to go in person to the surgery to sign a declaration that my medicines had been stolen.
As if life weren't tricky enough without horrible extras like this!
I hope you get sorted out with mended doors etc. At least it's light and a bit spring-like at last!
Good luck.0 -
I found out I'd been burgled when the policeman called me from my home phone!! I was away at the time and a neighbour alerted them.
Tip for getting rid of the silver stuff that SOCO use - neat washing up liquid.
Did they get some prints and stuff? Is there a spate in your area?
You are right to make your house a fortress - some burglars take things like tv's, DVD players, etc, in the assumption you'll get new replacements under insurance - then they come back again for those!
I am not trying to frighten anyone with that - just that get some highly visible deterrants and they'll go somewhere else that's easier to break into.
Did the police say what type of burglar it might be... ie. stuff to sell for drug money, opportunist, etc? They usually have some idea.Back on the DFW Wagon:

I feel for the invasion of your space. It's awful having your stuff nicked but most of it can be replaced, its awful knowing someone has been in your house but you can clean it but the worst thing is that it will be with you for years to come and it will affect the way you lead your life and what you do when you leave your house. Do I hide my spare car keys? Do I hide any cash? Do I hide my vaulable things? It does get better with time, but its bloody awful. I hope you can come through this smiling. Good luck with everything.

Really sorry to hear this. Its a nightmare on so many levels; house invaded, stuff gone, hassle of sorting it all out. Hopefully they will catch them but its hard & really does knock you when you're trying so hard...sorry that Wendym had a bad experience from Victim Support as they are usually fab (Wendy you should make formal complaint) & very supportive...may also be able to recommend info re alarms and any claims you may be able to make. Regardless, just wanted to send you a big emaily hugaroo!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0
