I was 22 and Ex OH 23 we bought a 2 bed terrace for £8500 with a 90% mortgage, sold it 10 years later for £36k, we earned about £100 per week between us and saving up the deposit was hard as we had some expensive hobbies.

I was 21 OH was 22, we had no savings whatsover and had to borrow the 2k deposit from his brother. We had only gone into the Estate Agents to talk to the Mortgage Advisor and ended up putting in an offer on a house where the sale had fallen through:eek:

13 years and 2 kids later we have now got it up for sale and are looking for something bigger!

Hi we where 21 &25 when we brought our first home 27 yrs ago on 100%, (£25,950).Got the keys the day before our wedding. When the mortgage started we paid £259 per mth and when we finished we where paying £145 per mth , it was a endowment witch I'm pleased to say matured with enough to pay it off, just.Mind you 27 yrs ago our joint monthly income was apx £625 total, how we managed I'll never no but you do.It's great to go down memory lane, but makes me feel old lol,, in case you wounder we are still together and I wouldn't swap any of it.

23 years old, about 22 years ago. 90% mortgage based on 3X OH's wage. I was studying at the time.

Then mortgage rates went through the roof. We stayed in for a year playing board games because we couldn't afford to go out. After I got a job things got better and now on our third house.

23 years old - borrowed 90% of the 90k it cost in 1999 to pick up a 3 bed house on the edge of london.
  • We have just had our offer accepted on our first home. I'm 29 and husband is 26. Our deposit is 30 % but we are also keeping back about 15k for fees and also improvements, savings etc. We also have enough to overpay by 200-300 each month. We have saved hard and I'm pleased with the position we are in.
