Fecal coliforms were indeed found on all the test brushes, including the control ones. However, none were of a level high enough to be dangerous, and experts confirm that such coliforms were impossible to completely avoid. Moreover, there was no significant difference in the number of bacteria based on where the toothbrushes were placed in respect to the toilet bowl.
Well said - so everybody don't worry!
bacteria are everywhere all the time and we're not ill all of the time so it obviously isn't a problem!
you probably pick up more faecal coliforms on door handlesJust call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -

eeurgh! I don't feel well.
Have you got the faecal colliwobbles?“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
I have heard this too and both me and OH flush with the lid down (plus I think leaving the lid open just looks wrong IMO haha). Having said that those little poo particles will still be able to escape through the gap between the bowl and the lid and also the seat but obviously not as many!
We have no room for a bathroom cabinet but that would be my ideal. Never would have thought about cleaning a toothbrush, not more than a quick rinse anyway!
I have an Oral B elecric toothbrush and it tells me when the head needs changing, which seems to be about 3 months - maye it has an inbuilt timer:D0 -

I'm glad you said that. I was wondering why people would clean their toothbrushes any other way and thought I must be the only one who didn't!0 -
this is why i dont clean my teeth pmsl...........
In all honesty tho...lol, milton is prob one of the best things you can use, if you leave a little in the cup you keep your brushes in then should be fine. every now and again i put mine in the little ones steam steriliser. I dont worry about changing them ever 3months, and i think the logic between this is that the bristles splay and can cause agrivation to gums. I dont have to worry about the loo thing as we have a seperate loo!!!0 -
I am also one who just runs it under the tap, but sometimes I run it under a very hot tap for a while if I feel it needs a bit more than a quick rinse, and replace when it seems to need it, which I think works out to about 5-6 months. I do buy a couple of the ones I like when I see them on special and keep them until needed.
Something else that would kill germs if you didn't want to use the methods mentioned above would be cheap alcohol - some value vodka or similar. Might make brushing your teeth more fun too!
(Vodka on a bit of cotton wool or soft tissue is also good for cleaning spectacles, especially those greasy type spots that just smear when you rub them!)Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0
