that's why my toothbrush isn't near the loo......
you are supposed to buy a new one eery 3 months anyway as the bristles wear out, even if it doesnt' look like it.0 -
I decided to keep a glass of milton in the bathroom for my toothbrush because I read in a magazine that when you flush the loo the germs can be spread about 6 foot in the air and land on surfaces and toothbrushes:eek::eek::eek::eek:
I keep toothbrushes in cabinet and trained all family to put toilet lid down before they flush because of this.0 -

I just put a trace of household bleech in an old mug, top up with water and drop my electric brush brush into it for a while ensuring that i rinse it well afterwards !
Obviously if the brush head is splayed/worn i bin it for a new one.0 -

I was thinking about this question the other day actually. I don't think the germs from the toilet are the main problem here, it's the ones that are already in your mouth.
You brush your teeth to clean them, what comes off your teeth goes onto your brush, a rinse under the tap will probably remove most but not all of this. You then leave your damp toothbrush to fester all day and the bacteria that cause bad breath and gum disease to multiply on your brush, ready to reinfect your mouth later on.
It has been shown that gum infections travel into the blood where they can spread all round the body and also to the heart (gum disease is a risk for heart attacks)
This is worth a look - although the general point seems to be cleaning doesn't make much difference

I just leave mine in my suit pocket when I take it to Sketchleys to be dry cleaned. Comes up a treat every time.0

I'm another "just rinse it under the tap" .... hasn't done us any harm so far:beer:0

I heard this so my tootbrush is kept in the opposite corner to the loo and I put the seat down before I flush. Always change it at 3 months when the bristles start to goA very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
