Wrong Number

Sorry to bump this back up but we keep getting calls for a cosmetics company... Luckily we're both at work during the week but we do get calls at the weekend and it's a right pain having to explain to people that this is a residential flat, we have no idea why they're calling our number etc, then they ask if we have the right number... Uh, no, SORRY! It's really annoying.
**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Apparently when I was a baby (in the 80s) my mum used to get calls to the house phone from people looking for Farleys Rusks.0

My family are mostly names Williams and throughout the 90's my Aunt and Uncle would constantly get calls asking for Robbie, various teenagers from all over the world would call at all hours of the day and night trying to speak to him. In the end they had to change the phone number lol0

We used to get people ringing up and asking for The owner of the buisness often! In the end we changed the number because they used to ring from all over asking for the owner of the non exisiting buisness!!
I would leave it personally, shes probably gave him the wrong number because he was uglyTheres 2 types of horse owner, a person who owns a horse and a horsey person

For a while, my in-laws had the same phone number as a nearby Indian restaurant, though the area codes were different.
They got so fed up with late night calls from drunken people trying to order takeaways that they used to tell them that the restaurant had been closed down by environmental health.

My work direct dial number gets calls from people mis-dialing a jobcentre in Liverpool, some of them take a lot of convincing before they believe they've dialled the wrong number. Someone once demanded to speak to my manager and said she would get me sacked for refusing to deal with her claim!Marsh Samphire0

I would just delete the message as if I left a message like that on someones phone and they rang me I would die on the spot! Maybe you could change your answerphone message making it clear whose number it is incase he rings back?
I have had this happen a couple of times, although not such a personal message.
It never occurred to me to do anything other than contact the caller and let them know about their mistake.0 -
I see your dilemma that the chap will be embarrased, but if you are a caring person it really is a no brainer. Tell him. I am surprised by some people, some one I know has a phone number 1 different to the Dr's and gets messages from old dears asking for appointements and prescriptions, she doesn't pass these on - well I think that is horrid. I know we have lost our community spirit, but it wouldn't even occur to me not to pass it on. However she is a psychotic cow!0

Got home yesterday to find what was obviously a wrong number on our answerphone.
It was a 20 minute message from a mature sounding gentlemen who said how much he had enjoyed the date last night. He felt they had a lot in common, and while he didn't want to force the pace, if she felt the same way, could she telephone and arrange another night out.
We have caller display so have his number.
Now this is the dilemma. Do we ignore the call and perhaps put the end to a budding romance, or do we call him and face the embarrasement of letting know we have heard his message.
Or perhaps his date didn't want to see him again and deliberately gave him a wrong (our) number.

could it also be a scam for you to ring the number....Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
One time a lady left a really long message for someone on my landline, with dates and times for appointments. I couldn't have ignored it, imagine if that was the only contact and some poor sod missed appointments because I couldn't be bothered to let someone know they had made a mistake.
Put it this way, it will take 2 minutes, will hardly cost anything if it's a landline and will maybe make someones day.
If the woman did give the bloke the wrong numbers, that's their problem not yours, but I would go out of my way and try to help.
It's just a nice thing to do for a strangerTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0
