Wrong Number

Options
Got home yesterday to find what was obviously a wrong number on our answerphone.
It was a 20 minute message from a mature sounding gentlemen who said how much he had enjoyed the date last night. He felt they had a lot in common, and while he didn't want to force the pace, if she felt the same way, could she telephone and arrange another night out.
We have caller display so have his number.

Now this is the dilemma. Do we ignore the call and perhaps put the end to a budding romance, or do we call him and face the embarrasement of letting know we have heard his message.
Or perhaps his date didn't want to see him again and deliberately gave him a wrong (our) number.

    Put yourself in his shoes.....

Personally, I would call him.....he won't be too embarrassed as he doesn't know you, if the woman deliberately gave him the wrong number at least he will get the message loud and clear.....

Probably lucky he did get the wrong number.

If someone left a 20-minute-long emotional answerphone message for me after one date I'd run a mile.

    Sounds more like stalking...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I use to get regular messages on my answer phone from teenage girls asking about getting abortions. I never found out why! But its amazing how much someone will tell a machine as its easier to speak to. But you probably want to make sure your 100% you have the correct number before leaving too revealing a message!
I would just delete the message as if I left a message like that on someones phone and they rang me I would die on the spot! Maybe you could change your answerphone message making it clear whose number it is incase he rings back?

Oh dear! I had a similar thing a few years back when a lady who I'd never heard of left a message to say somebody had died.

I did try calling back a few times, but everytime got no answer, so in the end I gave up.

Call him, and tell him! At least then he can check the number and try again!

    I agree.

OP - Have you managed to get in contact with him yet?

Someone posted an ad in the paper looking for a joiners assistant, they put the number down wrong and the number that was printed was my parents landline - calls went on for weeks, my dad being my dad, couldn't help but wind them up for a bit before telling them they'd got a wrong number...
  • I once answered my phone, and before I could say anything this extremely agitated female voice started wailing:

"Robbie, Robbie, he's found out about us, he says he's going to kill you and he's left the house in a towering rage - I've never seen him like this before, I think he's coming to get you, I'm frightened Robbie, Oh Robbie what are we going to do?"

    To which I replied:

"Well, I suggest you start by dialling the correct telephone number!"

The other phone was banged down so fast I could feel the shockwaves on my handset!!!

Unfortunately this was before 1471 was available, so I couldn't check the number called. It livened up a boring evening though!
