Wilsons,
So the second Jeweller actually took the diamond out and weighed it then did he?0 -
Yip. Is that allowed?0

I understand where you are coming from Wilsons..... but I would be mortified if I had to give up my diamond from my ring. If it turned out to be not as good as first thought it wouldn't bother me one bit.....if hubby wanted it replaced I'd tell him no way!!! Any other diamond wouldn't mean the same. Personally I'd ask him to get a refund for the difference if he felt that strongly. But no way would I have a different diamond. What does your fiance think about it?:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

Wilsons,
The reason i ask is that some Jewellers will just measure the diamond and say its smaller
Sorry to point this out to but if you go back to the Jewellers where you bought it after 10 months, He may even be able to see that that its been taken out Either way, Its likely that He'll say the diamond has been swapped!

In my presence the jeweller did measure the diamond to give me a quick estimate and it was then he pointed out that it was much smaller than stamped on the ring. We left it with him as he said he could remove the diamond and measure its depth at the workshop as well as weigh it. It then transpired that the diamond was even smaller than first anticipated! You’ve made me nervous now donnalou!! I’m sure the second jeweller would be more than happy to state that the ring/diamond hadn’t be tampered with before he removed it….he’d better…we’re planning on spending a small fortune on wedding rings with him!! I’ve just found the receipt and initial valuation for insurance. Cheeky buggers have stated “emerald cut approx weight 50 points”! The second jeweller has said 32 points! It’s no way near approximate!!…or is it donnalou??
I’m gonna cry…..0 -
They are cheeky buggers! By putting approx weight is rather odd. If I done an evaluation and couldn't take the diamond out. I would put approx but not for a new ring.
In my opinion and this is my opinion only I think the mount it was put in was old. Perhaps they sold that diamond and it was 0.50 but spread as a 0.32. They put your diamond in it and maybe they forgot to re-ingrave it with the new weight.
This by no means excuses them selling you it as a 0.50.
When you look inside what intials are next to the Hallmark?0 -

Apologies. The second jeweller said 42 points not 32 points! Sorry. Is this still too far off the mark? I can’t make out the initials either. At the time of purchase we did specify 50 points though…0 -
it is a bit odd. If really depends on the Jeweller. If it was from a chain then maybe you'd stand a chance with your complaint, but maybe a small independant Jeweller won't be as bothered0

This might throw a cat among the pigeons, when we got my engagement ring we were given the certificate for the diamond with the grade detailed, colour and a diagram to show any imperfections. This also detailed the Carat and we were told to keep that with the insurance estimate. Anyone else got one of these?0

sportsbeth,
Yours was a certificated diamond. Only a smaller number of diamonds are certificated. Usually grade H or above. Some of the most recent certificated diamonds even have the certificate number lazered on the diamond which you can see by using an eye glass.
If you have this I'm sure the Jeweller would have told you when buying it.0
