Its a great thing to review the website before purchasing an engagement Ring. I purchase and sell Diamond rings and use abcglab.org for Accurate Diamond and Jewelry Appraisals.0

Good evening,
I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to give me thoughts and suggestions regarding a prospective engagment ring purchase. I have been reading through and the feedback regarding Samara James seems to be extremely good.
Having a look through their webstore, I have come up with a good idea of what I am looking for, however, it is a little more expensive than I was looking to spend. Here are the specs:
Miranda setting
0.4 Carat
Flawless (IF)
D Pure White
Cut/Symmetry/Polish Hearts and Arrows
Metal 950 Platinum
£2634.44
With no desire to bankrupt myself, I am keen to keep the price to £2,000.00 or just a little over at the most. I appreciate that I can drop the spec to reduce the price, but I suppose my question really is, is it realistic to get such a ring for c. £2,000.00 by shopping around, or do I need to lower expectations?
Any suggestions would be kindly received.0 -
Because the grade of diamond you are looking at is IF then its a fair price for the specifications...IF is as you are aware the most perfect and therefore commands a high price..
If you play with the combinations then of course its possible to get the ring under budget but IMHO thats actually not a bad price for the grade of ring you have selected
You wouldnt get IF diamonds on the high street that easily in the large chains of shops so would probably be looking at buying from an independant or small jeweller who makes to your specifications...and in honesty thats the price you would be looking at or near that for a stone of that quality...
If youve read my other posts on this thread then you will know I always advise people to see what they are buying...so again my advice would be to go and look at a selection of stones and see what you think of the IF diamond against one of maybe a slightly lower quality or down a mark or 2 on the colour scale...that will give you time to appraise whether you think the IF diamond is worth the extra money compared to other things you could get for that budget...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

How much should I be spending on an engagement ring, I have no idea how much rings cost normally so it's difficult to compare. Obviously I know what type I'm looking for but with these types of purchases (ie for the woman) I find it's important to get the cost/quality ratio correct!
Please help!
I'm sure your fiance to be will be delighted with the ring however much it costs! Good luck....0 -
Try Diamonds and Rings online....they are very competitve.0

After reading over half of this thread i thought i would ask for some help please. I am looking for a ring ,solitaire, between 3k and 4k. I understand about the 4c's but i need advice on a few things. I want the sparkle, fire and brilliance to be exceptional. It will be set in a gold shank. What colour setting, gold or platinum is best and which is the best setting to get optimum light in to get the best sparkle even in daylight. I want a hearts and arrows cut and am looking to get a diamond 0.5 - 1ct. Is my price range realistic. I even looked at Tiffanys (swoon) but after reading up i came to the conclusion i can get the same quality elsewhere. I would like a ring that is exceptional quality all round which is why i looked at Tiffanys. Would Brian Gavin be the best choice for me. Hi guys, i have the perfect ring in mind for my girlfriend, the shop i found it in is a "cheques cashing" (jewellery pawn brokers as far as i can see) and is quite a distance from me as we saw it on holiday. It's priced at £485...what is a sensible offer to place at and negotiate?
I was thinking of walking in and offering them £350 with a view to maybe getting it for £400...does that sound over or under achievable?
Cheers.0 -

Just a couple of thoughts on this...
When you say the shop is quite a distance does that mean it may well cost you quite a bit to get there...is it possible that you could phone them first and explain you have seen a ring, describe it and see if its still in stock and ask politely if they wold be able to offer or consider a discount on the ticket price...really until you know whether they are open to offers if you ar'nt prepared to pay the full price then it may turn out to be a wasted journey...
as regards to how far or how low to go on an offer theres always the saying "you wont know until you ask"...so I would never say dont try a cheeky offer...but you really do need to be respectful and if the offer is too low then perhaps you could ask what they are looking to get for the ring...it may be that they are only able to discount a little or are prepared to hold out for the full ticket price, and that might be something that you have to accept...you either walk away or pay the ticket price to get the ring...every seller is different so theres no hard and fast rule of what to expect by way of discount...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

I hadn't considered bargaining over the phone actually, might be worth a go and use the long journey down as leverage. Does a starting offer of £350 sound bad to you then if they are open for discussion?0
