It isn't freeware though.

I have been using it for years and never ever had to pay for it

No, it is not.

Just because you aren't forced to buy it doesn't mean it is freeware.

You can try WinRAR before buy, its trial version is available

That's because you are breaching the T+Cs of the software and not paying for it.
