Well I think it's insulting to our colonial cousins to slag off their national food.

Why did you not use a roast dinner at the local pub carvery or a bacon sandwich from the greasy spoon cafe as examples?

You wouldn't dream of insulting Germany by using Bratwurst and Sauerkraut as illustration, and heaven forbid you'd mentioned frogs legs?

    So why curry???

    Yes, fine, right, whatever
How dare you infer a racial element, who the hell are you to take something so far out of context it's unreal. You've obviously read my OP and missed the part that the first cable cost ME £12.99, this is the cost, bar a couple of pence, of a main and rice for 2 at my local curry house. I was drawing the comparison that the meal would be eaten in 15-20 minutes, depending on the speed of the individual, but the HDMI cable would be around for some while after that!!!!nothing to do with the food or who makes it..

    OK - far enough - I'm having a laugh - calm down!

    No hard feelings...

The curry's are cheap around here too!

BTW - There's no way you'd eat a Vindaloo from our local Balti house in 15-20 mins - not without an aircraft grade foam fire extinguisher handy anyway (oh, and you'd need two - a spare one for when it's on its way back out again!!!)

So does your cheap £1.99 ebay cable give the same quality picture as the other 'unmentionable' one? :D

Tried the ebay cable and its as good as the other more expensive one, nice and sturdy and should do the job for a few years. Only trouble is my Samsung 1080p9 dvd player has stopped working (ive not even watched a movie on it yet!) stops responding all together...it happened at the same time as putting the cheap HDMI cable in would you believe.....guess what I thought...bl00dy cheap cables!!!! :rotfl:.....gonna get a new one of those from richer sounds and take the other one back to Saino's.

  • "Should I shell out on expensive cables?

Cable quality can influence sound and picture quality on LCD and plasma TVs. Poor-quality Scart cables are more prone to interference from other devices and atmospherics. But you don’t have to pay the earth – a tenner should do, rather than opting for the cheapest at three or four quid. For HDMI cables budget about £20.
A good rule of thumb – the thicker the cable the better. This usually means it boasts more ‘screening’ from interference. Also look for gold plated connectors.
Occasionally plug and unplug the cables in your LCD or plasmaTV. This helps to remove the build-up of oxides, which affect how well signals are transmitted."

So OP, you were right originally, shame you backed right down to what for the most part are people who don't know what they're talking about, and think a bargain is only a bargain when it's under £10 (for cables that is).

Firstly, I'm afraid you have to take Which? with a pinch of salt; invariably they are NOT experts in every field, rather journalists who do some research before writing an article. In most cases you can get much more expert advice from a specialised forum on the web.

That said, that article doesn't actually say that more expensive HDMI cables will be better, just that you should expect to budget £20 for one.

Seriously mate, go and do some research on what "digital" means, it's really just a load of zeros and ones, they either get there or they don't.

I've been looking to get a HDMI cable for the tv I just won, the advice I've been given is that a cheaper cable may work just as well as an expensive one over a short distance but is the cable going to last?

Its mainly down to the build quality.

The recommended cable I've been told to purchase by Sony and Richer Sounds is one by ixos.

But theres a budget cable which may not look as good but you can't argue with the price.

If I buy the cheaper cable it may degrade over time and need replacing but even if I replace it 9 times I still wouldn't have spent the same as I would of done on the recommend cable.
Why buy when you can win!

I take you you are going for the cheap option then
