Hi Primula & thanks,
I remember you& I'm only hanging on out of sheer pride, how awful would it be to fail at my own challenge :rotfl:. The really sad thing is I'm going to have to do it again next year too to make up for other silly spending .
Well, that's my first week back at work over & it has been ok. I've topped up all the funds which are as follows :
Gas & Electricity £75
Car Tax £ 40
Car spares etc £ 10
Presents £ 50
DD clubs £ 90
Dentist/Optician £ 0
Clothes £ 0
I didnt have any spare to cover the funds while on holiday so the Gas & Electricity fund is a bit low but as I turned off absolutely everything apart from the fridge it should be ok. I'm a bit of a fresh air freak usually but am being more conscious this year & closing all the windows by about 3 to give the place a chance to warm up before it gets chilly in the evening.
The presents & DDs club funds are also a bit low - both DDs birthdays within the next month & also have to pay Brownie subs of £25 next week, £50 for a weekend trip by end of the month & also after school clubs but I [STRIKE]can[/STRIKE] will manage.
I need to fill my car up as I have to do an airport collection next week so I guess I'm going to have to brave a Tatco trip soon .
I've had my 2nd NSD of the month so quite pleased with that & need to plan next week very carefully.
Some money owed to me was repaid today so I can now make a payment to CC3 first thing tomorrow & I also have a few more coins to pay into the savings account, just need to go & count them now ... :rolleyes:0 -
Hello & a Happy Sunny Friday to all
NEWSFLASH : Lula is actually enjoying being back on the DFW wagon
I'm having so much fun.
I've known for a while that come September things had to start happening & plans needed to be made (& adhered to ) but already it seems to be working & it's fine.
I braced myself for Tatco this morning & dropped my holiday films in to be developed ( apparently it's £5 each  but will query that when I collect & pay tomorrow). I had previously made a list of cleaning/housheold items only & managed to completely bypass the homewares, food, stationery, discount & alcohol aisles :A. Ok, I nearly got swayed by some very shiny folders to put my bills etc in but then I realised how it would have to come out of my treats budget as completely unnecessary so put them back & moved on. £3.30 saved. The same thing nearly happened with a Mr. Messy water bottle for DD ... but again I realised that hse has 2 perfectly adequate ones & if she wants a Mr. Men one then she can buy it herself out of her pocket money, another £2.00 saved
.
I scoured the loo roll aisle for the best bargain& also got kitchen rolls, tissues, wipes, gloves, cloths, scourers, bin liners, bleach, washing up liquid, toothbrushes, squirty cleaner, washing powder & squirty cleaner. The total bill by the time a couple of bogofs & multi buy discounts had been applied was £25.15 & I reckon that's good for a month's supply, & some of the stuff will last longer as we hadnt run out. I just wanted to do a test run of buying everything in one go to see how much it was. Some may be horrified by this amount but I use a carefully selected blend of eco & just plain cheap as possible stuff. Washing up liquid is £2 but value scourers are just 15p. No, I dont use polish - have an e cloth & running water .
Next stop was the refuelling station ... a rather scary £31.52 but against all usual advice I just bunged my clubcard vouchers in as well so it actually only cost £24.02 - I'm not silly; that came out of my Treats Budgetso I now have £68.74 left. Will have to pay for film developing out of that too
After that came a trip to the post office to pay another £4 of coppers into the coin savings account - now holds £50.
A quick shop at the co op for a sauce for dinner tonight, some bread & some chocolate mini rolls :shhh: & I now have £ 8.00 cr in this weeks grocery fund.
I've paid £50 to CC3 which now weighs in at £ 1030 & as I wont get it cleared by the time the 0% deal runs out & the interest & balance will be much less than CC1 then from next months I will be back to paying the maximum off CC1 again . According to the snowball it will take me another 32 months to clear the debts so am going to have to be very cunning & tricksy to pull off my 24 month goal.
The local authority have helped a bit by reducing my council tax bill by £5 a month for the rest of the year. The rent also went down by £3 a week recently but I know that was because they overestimated the inflation related increases or something or other. I dont question why, I just amend standing orders & rub hands with glee. (Then wait for the letter saying they made a mistake as per last year & now I owe them money so can they have it back ) Bowski - you'll know exactly what I mean :rotfl:.
I suppose I should go & do some chores before I pick DD up but packing all my cleaning goodies into the cupboard has just about overfilled my cup of housework joy so I might just amble around here for a bit instead.
bye for now

Allo my lovely
Glad to see the new Quest in its full glory, and have subscribed.
You do realise that you now have an uneven number of chocolate mini rolls (yes, have seen your confession to sneaking one), meaning that you will now have to eat another one to ensure they can be shared equally?Unfortunately I have to confess to hoovering up the leftover Jammie Dodgers from the godchildren's visit. I could never manage that no biscuits challenge...
Congratulations on that household shopping binge. I imagine chez Lula is looking fab. Great news on the council tax/rent too; that's a nice contribution to the budget.
Enjoy the rest of your sunny Friday.0 -
Well done Lula on the frugal tatco shop - I use my clubcard vouchers towards my shopping bill too:D I also use a mixture of posh and cheapo products - I use ecover washing up liquid and tesco own non bio washing powder. I was upset today when I realised that the local wierdo shop had closed - this was an ecover refill station and now I need to find another so that I can refill an empty bottle of washing up liquid. The shop was a weirdo shop - she used to sell crystals, tarot cards and other nonense as well as running a beauty parlour - the trouble was, she was only open at weekends so if people tried in the week and she was closed then they would just go elsewhere. Her shop had a wierd smell too - a mixture of hot aromatherapy oils, incense and scented candle.
I am pleased to say that hairy mary has been banished - the underarm area is looking a lot nicer, the gordon brown eyebrows have been tidied up and I have had a facial - I think that I will have to use my local beauty parlour more often as they are a heck of a lot cheaper than the day spa:eek:
Not much work done today due to inconsiderate noisy neighbours who are going to be evicted:j Although I did to to the bank and put in £20 mystery shopping money into my business account.:D0 -
Hi Lula, I like the shiny new thread, co-incides nicely with things settling where I am so I can actually keep up with your thread. I couldn't log on here for so long I couldn't remember my username or password!
Horace, barclays were doing a half price offer on contents, I got mine for abuot £56 for the year, without cashback as I did it in branch. They just wanted to know how old the building was, what the entrance system was like and how much carp I had.
Are you tied on with house insurance once it renews, I thought it was just if you claimed then you couldn't change mid-year?0 -
Hello Hollyberry, it is an absolute miracle but today I manged to walk away from the co op without any of the half price J-Ds . I just couldnt face having to admit to Bowski that I had failed on day 3
Hello Horace, glad to hear Hairy Mary has been banished :j. I say get yourself an epilator, indulge in a bit of self mutilation & save yourself some pennies. Have to be honest, a bit of dutch courage doesnt go amiss beforehand. Your weird shop sounds just the type I like. I havent located any ecover refill outlets within 15 miles so when I am debt free I may well open a shop such as you described & I will have your business cards scattered aobut the place too. *Sighs & dreams of owning an individual, eclectic type of establishment. There will be nice coffee, tea & of course a never ending supply of hobnobs ...*
Back to reality
Hello Lexxi, long time no hear but glad to hear you have remembered your alter ego & returned to the delights of DFW :T
A brief up date on the spends ... there has been a small incident concering a book & Amazon to the tune of £7.15 ( a big saving was made by having 26p credit) so my Treats Budget has been reduced to £61.59. It is disappearing at an alarming rate & I havent even been to Boots yet.

Yet more spending ,
Whizzed up to Tatco to collect photos & was very miffed to discover that £10 was the correct price, particularly as one set turned out to be ones that DD took, just wandering around the house & garden, so lots of pictures of dolls, twigs & the sofa . Will continue to let her use my phone in future.
Popped in to M & S to get a gift for the boss who's having her birthday party this evening. I spent £17 in total & then another £5.50 on wine to take along. I'm expecting it to be quite low key as have recently found out that she is very unwellbut a lot of effort has gone into this party eg marquees, entertainers & caterers so feel that we should make an appearance but that it should be quite brief. It's rather awkward as I'm not meant to know about her illness but co worker has confided in me & frankly I'm expecting it to be quite obvious.
Tomorrow we are helping out on a stall at nearby RSPCA centre & I am glad to discover that you cannot just choose an animal, pop it in a bag & take it home or I fear that we would be overrun with dogs, cats, rabbits & possibly horses too . It now feels as though the holiday almost never happened although the tan is holding up quite well, but I will be glad once this weekend is over & we can get back into the usual work, school, chores, maintenance & improvements & allotment routine. Sounds boring but the summer seems to be over now so might as well get on with the usual stuff for a few months.
I had a rather frightening letter from Barclaycard today; it appears they have noticed that my payments for the last 2 months have been close to the minimum so they are offering to decrease the minimum in order to 'help me out'. theu didpoint out that this would in fact mean I take longer to repay my debt & it owuld increase the interest in the long run. No, really, you dont say . I swiftly declined their offer & that has just made me even more determined to forge ahead on the DFW path.
* rushes off to calculate how much can be paid this month*0 -
Lexxie - I live in a rented flat so no buildings insurance for me - I have renewed with More Than now which is ok - I have a lot of stuff including limited edition artwork and a fabby watch that need to be included under higher rate items:D
On Thursday night I was taking my eyedrops at bedtime and somehow managed to poke myself in the eye with the bottle and then blinked so I scratched my cornea - eye has been sore since but it will heal itself - an afternoon nap helped today.
I havent been out today at all - I did look in the freezer and found a chicken & mushroom pie (I hate mushrooms), 2 ribeye steaks (packed together:mad:), a bag of old sausages, oh there was also a very large lasagne, 1 chicken jalfrezi and 1 sweet n sour chicken oh and a ham and mushroom pizza (I cannot abide curries or sweet n sours so they, the pie and the pizza are not mine:rolleyes:). I also have some beef stew but I had stew for dinner last night and don't fancy it again. I am guessing that tonight will be a bowl of soup:rolleyes: I have very little in the way of food:eek:
Oh and I had my second assignment marked and got an A for that one too:D I need to write up assignment 3 and send it off - lets hope I get As for all the other assignments:D
I can now have free calls over the internet now that I have my headphones and mic so that I can now use skype - people could speak to me but they couldnt hear me speak to them:eek:
£10 for film development in Tatco - its a rip off, next time send your pics to Truprint.
Well I suppose I had better see how many packets of out of date soup I have in the cupboard (my reckoning that as the soup is dry then it wont go off).0
