The other area to explore is housing co-operatives. I don't know if there are any in your neck of the woods, but I've lived in one for over 20 years, have a lovely 2 bed maisonette and my rent is £300 per month (I live in West London). Most places smaller than mine around here, cost £300 per week! You do have to do some work for the Co-op, typically attend monthly meetings, take on responsibility for a project, repairs, whatever skills you have can be utilised. Have a look at the Confederation of Co-operative Housing website https://www.cch.coop

Hello, I also think that you should apply for a council house. If you do decide to go to the doctor for anti depressants as some of the others suggest, put that on your application. Once you are on the list you will accrue points as time goes on and so the longer you are on it, the more chance you have of getting a house. Also if your landlord decides to put the rent on your present property up that seems to me like a crisis situation since you don't sound like you have the strenght to look for something else. It would be worth contacting the housing people again if this happens and telling them as it may help.
What I really wanted to say though was that you should consider looking for grants. There are thousands of grants out there and there are bound to be some for people in your situation. Some are connected to the area you live in, others to the type of employment you do, others to age etc. If nothing else I am sure you would be able to get a grant to help with the cost of a holiday. Of course it is a lot of work looking for these things but it might be something to think about.
Kind Regards, I am sure something will turn up.

    Hi Hun

Hows about a lodger? I think you either have to look for a cheaper place to rent or increase your income.

I think you've done amazingly welll to stay out of debt. I hope it can stay that way because at least you have that peace of mind. I wish I could think of something constructive to say. I cant think of anything right now but I'll try to think about it. But well done, pat on the back and a hug for being very self disciplined.

  • Hi,

You have received lots of good advice and suggestions.

But I was wondering if you have a spare room, would you not be able to take in a lodger?

    regards

    AWWW Monkeychops heres a hug.
I too have nothing constructive to add. I am in the same/similar situation to you, although I am being turned down for more lucrative positions coz I've got "too much experience" - !!!!!!! I think they mean I'm too old (pushing 40) and 'ought' to have more qualifications.
How about abroad - with any luck you can take your 'rents with you and the warmer weather would make you happier??
I have freinds in Algarve, France and Australia who keep telling me I 'should' come and work/live out there....
