Scottish Power's exit fee

Hmmm....would this be something Martin may be interested in investigating? It's happening far too frequently to be classed as a one-off from an untrained CS rep IMO. I just can't imagine a rep saying stuff like this without being instructed to
Maybe time [STRIKE]Spanish[/STRIKE] Scottish Power was investigated....

He is. From Martin's newsletter:
Warning! Did you cap with Scottish Power last summer? Switch NOW to avoid costly locked-in tariff!
Last summer, to beat the ensuing 30% plus price hikes, 100,000s capped... one of the big tariffs was Scottish Power's Fixed Price Energy 2009. If you've got it, it finished on Mon (31 Aug). Act now. It's already shifted you to a new year-long capped tariff, and unless you switch before the end of Sept it'll lock you in with an exit penalty. Yet there are cheaper tariffs elsewhere, including caps if you want one. Is this legal? We're investigating whether it's allowed to lock you in by default,0 -
I was talking specifically about the fact that SP reps have clearly been ringing customers and basically lying with regard to being charged an exit fee if they instigated the switch before 31/8/09 when it's clear that the relevant date is when the switch actually completes.Call me Carmine....

Conspiracy or C0ck-up?
If it is a deliberate policy of lying, then someone in Management forgot to tell Craig the Scottish Power rep on this thread.0 -

Disappointing. Think about it. Craig is the public face of SP on MSE. He's talking to potentially thousands. In black and white. The individuals reporting this remarkably similar-sounding conversation with their SP CS rep here are just that - individuals. And it's just that - a conversation, no recourse to re-reading it later. There's a huge difference.
PS This is in no way denigrating Craig, he seems a real decent sort. But so do the company reps on Watchdog once they've had their pants pulled down.
PS Of course, the CS reps could just have been misinformed. Let's be honest, this is the energy industry, nothing really bad is gonna happen to a Big Six'er (npower sculpting?)Call me Carmine....

As always I am feeding these issues back to the appropriate heads of department to ensure the information given to customers is entirely accurate.
I can only apologise if some of you have been given a false impression with regards the application of cancellation fees. I can assure you 100% this is not a deliberate policy of misinformation.

Hi Craig,
If someone is penalised the £50 by SP, will you just take it from the amount we are in credit or will you ask our permission first before takeing it?? also what sort of a procedure have SP got to recoup this money after it has been taken.0 -

The potential difficulty in getting it back should be cushioned by the compensation you receive after you've complained to the regulator about this illegal/fraudulent action being taken. I'm not sure SP would now go ahead with such a move, tbh.Call me Carmine....
