T-Mobile flext 35

Hi all

had my flext 35 contract for inexcess of 3 years. I was under the impression that i was getting £200 allowance every month.

I checked my allowance when it came through and it showed at £195. I contacted them and queried it to be told it was the VAT reduction.

Now im by no means stupid, but i just cant get my head round it and the person i spoke to at T-Mobile wasnt very clear either.

Anyone shed any light?

What they've done is quite sneaky. As you are paying 15% VAT instead of 17.5% on your line rental, they have reduced your allowance by the same percentage. (200 / 117.5) x 115 = ~195

I would argue that this is unfair, as those of us not on flext still get the same minute and text allowance, and not a proportional reduction. They shouldn't be able to reduce your allowance as technically it is the government and NOT T-mobile that are payed 2.5% less
Try to imagine nothing ever existed...
  • I work for t-mobile it was£200, its dropped due to the new vat rate, however it works ou the same for you as your call costs etc have also dropped so when worked out in minutes you are still getting the same amount of allowance! :) hth

  • This is not true, combi and solo are all charges at different rates per min depending on when you signed the contract etc,

If that is the case I stand corrected! I guess there is nothing underhand going on!

  • the only reason i am so confident im my answer is because I would morally not be able to reassure customers with the same query calling through if they were blatently ripping them off!

    Heh, that's good to know.

Seeing as though you work for t-mob, I was wondering if you knew what retention deals were like with the g1?
I've for a flext 50 up for renewal in Oct, and was offered 29 quid a.month with an LG gt500, but I'm not particularly interested in that phone.

It will be back to normal in a few months time when vat goes back up. The important thing is you aren't losing out.

And if the next government raises VAT to 20%, what would you like the mobile companies to do - increase your monthly charge or reduce your minutes?
  • its hard to say specifically about what should be on your bill, without ofcourse knowing exactly what flext 35 plan you are on (as there are several different versions of this plan) and knowing your account details, if your have any special discounts, what other bundles may be on your account etc etc. As general advice all i can say is the allowance is reduced to the new vat rate, and the call charges (which are then taken out of that allowance) are also reduced by the same rate, effectivly meaning if you break it down to minutes/texts that would equate to your allowance you are not worse off. (I hope that makes sense its difficult to explain in writing lol) you will also notice on your bill you are no longer paying the £35 a month (hence the flext 35) for your line rental, but you are paying it at the new vat rate also, so thats reduced. I dont work in the billing team. Im sorry you had a bad experience when trying to discuss this with customer services, however if you try calling back and speaking to someone else, they may be able to explain it in a different way which may make more sense to you, and if there are any mistakes, it will be credited back to you. Mistakes do sometimes happen and if you think this may be whats happened to you they will be able to recalculate your bill and refund you the difference for the period. I really hope this helps :)
