Hi, following on, my friend is still being chased by these people for settlement, with threats of impending legal action and seizure of goods from her property by debt collectors. Any advice?

Ignore until Court papers arrive - it will be a long wait.

And what do I do when the court papers arrive? I'd really hoped it wouldnt go that far, (unless you're implying they will never turn up?)
We are just very worried about cowboy 'Debt Collectors' turning up and removing articles whilst she is at work i.e her car which is parked right outside the address during the day :(''''''' sob sob

Debt collectors are just private citizens who have no right of entry to your property, cannot seize goods and cannot blacken your credit record. As for the court papers, they will never arrive, take it from us.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • You are more likely to win the lottery than get court papers. As for debt collectors turning up, just tell them to politely go away as they have no powers at all to remove goods or to harass you for this. In fact, afaik, they are not allowed to turn up at your door unannounced.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

I have been advised from anpother thread to respond to them with this letter:
    Dear Sir or Madam,

I note you have sent an invoice to me in respect of my vehicle allegedly parking at One Stop, Perry Barr car park on 26/08/2009.
Please note although I am the registered keeper of the vehicle, I am not liable for your invoice.
As the registered keeper, I am only liable for tickets issued, to me, by local authorities under the 1991 Road Traffic Act.
Unfortunately, this does not apply to private car parks.
You need to contact the driver of the vehicle on the day in question and produce the invoice to them.

Please do not contact me again unless it is to inform me that you will not be taking the matter any further with me.

    Yours faithfully

Do u think this is wise?????
  • Very unwise!

Why waste the cost of the stamp? The PPC won't care, they will just continue to send letters in the hope you will break and pay up.

Better to let them waste their money and when you get any letters put them in the bin. They have already spent £2.50 (DVLA charge) + one stamp. Let them waste as much as possible! Hopefully at some point the economics of their scam will prove fruitless which would be a bonus! The more people DON'T pay, the more expensive it gets for them.

If these so called 'Debt Collectors' turn up, could we call the police on them? what would happen?

Nothing they have to take you to court and get an order before debt collectors can be used.

I also like how they have provided fake details for their whois information http://www.whois.net/whois/central-ticketing.com Sadly as it's a .com domain I don't know if anything can be done about it.

Update: http://www.icann.org/en/registrars/ra-agreement-17may01.htm#3.7.7.2 rules say it can be grounds for cancellation of the domain. Now going to make a complaint http://reports.internic.net/cgi/registrars/problem-report.cgi
