They were FAB :T
Have to say, it's nice to see other people on here saying the same thing. I've never met anyone else who ever used them, and most people look at me totally blank when I mention them -- even people my own age (early/mid 40's) don't seem to have ever heard of them, and I was pretty late in getting a mobile compared to most of them
Same here...Personal call tariff...Think it started at £12.50 a month...
Think i had the M200 phone.....wow....cant find a picture of it anywhere

I think everyone has had bad experiences with one network or another. There certainly isn't one outright best. 3 UK took a lot of stick in the first few years. Coverage was abysmal, call handovers weren't possible but today it is a worthy competitor against the long established networks and has the best 3g and Mobile broadband coverage. People also complained about One 2 One in the early 2000s, it had capacity issues and calls wouldn't go through for long periods of time and coverage was also under par. People also have similar complaints about Vodafone, O2, and Orange. Basically where one network is better than another in one aspect it will be WORSE in another.
People are saying a 3UK and T-Mobile UK merger would be more acceptable is for a number of reasons. 3 only have 8% market share but this would even out market share among all the remaining operators which is a good thing. It also makes sense because of the mast sharing arrangement they already have in place.
Another interesting aspect to the whole T-Mobile/Orange merger is with Virgin Mobile. They still use T-Mobiles network, once upon a time it was a 50/50 venture between Virgin/T-Mobile but even these days Virgin are buying airtime on the T-Mobile network to resell to customers so ultimately they are getting profit there. I bet T-Mobiles 15% market share does not factor this in.
What I also can't understand is that if 3 UK is so small with 8% share, why is that not struggling? and not offered on a plate for sale/merger?.
O2 are so big because of its market leading PAYG tarrifs and the fact that they litterally gave SIM cards away to get subscribers to switch. This was an aggressive and successful strategy and it took all of the other networks years to do something similar.0 -

3 have only just started making profit this year. I could not see any of the other networks wanting to associate themselves with 3, they are an utter knightmare. orange in my opinion are by far the best network, i just hope they don't get brought down to t-mobiles standards!
It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt0 -
think i would rather set fire to myself and put it out with petrol than take a contract with 30

I have a contract with 3 for their mobile broadband. Their service used to be horrendous, but it has improved ten-fold over the last few months. I have to say I'm rather happy with 3.0
