:confused:Hi all. I'm having this dilema. I need to keep my number, I'm a musician so I have 10 years of contacts that have my number. I got a vodafone from mobiles.co.uk and wanted to port from Orange. Vodafone have just told me that it isn't possible. I am unsure what to do, if this can't be ported then I don't want this phone and contract as it is no use. I am with 14 days of purchase, but the phone has been being used for the last week, but is still in great condition. What would my best options to either:-
a)Somehow port the number
b)cancel and return the phone and get another company to match the offer on a new contract?

Many thanks

They will probably moan about it but as it couldn't be helped what could be done ????
Just send it back to them and keep copies of everything.
It's not just about the money

Their rep answered this very question from CrustyMcMuffin earlier in this thread!
Provided the phone is in its original condition and you haven't used it excessively the return should be fine.....

Though it maybe a good idea to take a screen print right now, (just in case!!)
• I thought it was against ofcom regulations to offer a phone contract without the ability to transfer your number.

I spoke to ofcom and it is. Not sure it's worth it, but if enough people complain, they'll have to look at it.

My wife bought me a phone and 24 month Vodafone contract as a Christmas present. However by the time that I had opened it I was outside the 7 day porting deadline (and contract cancellation deadline) imposed by Vodafone on transferring in existing numbers with PAC code.

As my existing number is vital for me because I have sales literature relating to this number the Vodafone contract is therefore a complete and utter waste of money.

Numerous calls to Vodafone have left me with the firm view that they are absolutely happy with this situation. Othe providers will, I understand, change numbers later on.

Keep away from Vodafone if you like good customer service. Why they cannot be more flexible is beyond me. They tell me it is not possible to do but I think they mean it is their policy not to do it.

What a mobiles.co.uk rep said ( quoted for posterity )
Hiya,

I'm getting all mentions of porting updated so they all advise about the current Vodafone problems.

If Vodafone refuse to put the port through for you try saying that you supplied your PAC to us when ordering, sometimes this helps.

Provided the phone is in its original condition and you haven't used it excessively the return should be fine, but Returns will be able to help (email returns@mobiles.co.uk)

Thanks,

What you said
Well I'm glad you're more helpful than the guy I just received an email from who said "As you have used the sim we are unable to return the handset." which of course isn't what you're saying.

What Mobiles.co.uk T&C's say

7 Day Return
The returns period and the following instructions apply to contract, pay-as-you-go and upgrade orders.

Ensure the Sim/Handset/Free gift has not been used (use signifies acceptance of your contract)
