So after the Orange debacle I thought I'd get myself a fancy new phone, found a nice one on mobiles.co.uk, checked all but one of their number porting FAQs and bought it. Phone arrived, looks good etc and now to port the number across. Phoned vodafone who say they can't do it, emailed mobiles.co.uk who say they cant do it unless I give them the PAC code at the time of order. Also on their site it says to 1 - request the PAC code, 2 - order the phone, 3 - contact your new provider to transfer the number. Nowhere does it mention giving them the PAC code at the time of order.
I'm still within the 7 working days to return it for the distance selling regulations so I guess I'll have to do that, at least I hope I can. All seems a bit daft though, I've had this number for about 10 years and have never had any issues transferring it before. Does anyone know about returning the phones, do I need to get authorisation from mobiles.co.uk before doing this?
Thanks.

Contact Moblie co.uk and tell them you are returning it because you cannot port your number. You have 14 to return your phone.0

Cheers Buddah, after I got the initial email saying I couldn't port the number I sent them one back asking how to return it. Its a royal pain in the hoop like but I took long enough to remember this number I don't want to have to remember another one!0

"Please note it is currently not possible to port your exisitng number to Vodafone."
Its the same with Phones4u - number porting to vodafone is not possible although some people have managed it if you read some other threads.0 -
Yeah I found that later, if you go to the FAQs>Number Porting its only under the What else show I know? header that it mentions not being able to transfer to vodafone. There's a number on the back saying "for a return to be valid, the handset, sim and free gift must not have been used" Well the sim card is in the phone as I put it in to phone vodafone customer services. Does the distance selling regulations overrule this requirement?0

Hiya,
I'm getting all mentions of porting updated so they all advise about the current Vodafone problems.
If Vodafone refuse to put the port through for you try saying that you supplied your PAC to us when ordering, sometimes this helps.
Provided the phone is in its original condition and you haven't used it excessively the return should be fine, but Returns will be able to help (email returns@mobiles.co.uk)

Thanks, I emailed returns@ at half 9 this morning and waiting for word back. I haven't used the phone at all really, but I did put the sim card in to check it was all ok.
Vodafone did say they couldn't put the port through, depending what your returns dept say I might try phoning them again. If all else fails I'll take the same deal out with 02 through your site, just a hassle I could do without though.0 -

Well I'm glad you're more helpful than the guy I just received an email from who said "As you have used the sim we are unable to return the handset." which of course isn't what you're saying.
Anyway, after the sterling customer service from this particular chap I decided to phone vodafone and bluff it saying I provided your company with a PAC code and lo and behold, and after an hour on hold, it worked! So thank you to you, but no thanks to your colleague.0 -
does anyone know the rationale behind VF's lack of porting. I was just about to get a new phone from mobile.co.uk with VF and won't now due to this porting issue.
Don't they want people to sign new contracts ?0 -

The stupid thing is that ASDA who use Vodafone as their carrier need you to get the sim first, use it to ring them before you can transfer your number!
It is not a reseller issue with Voda, it is Voda themselves. Silly company.0 -
Its Voda's systems, the mobiles rep will agree with me here...
voda's system doesnt give out temp numbers unlike the other networks, so unless PAC is given at point of sale, vodas system will give a number which cant be changed0
