  • Oh now I didn't know that - thanks. May be a PS 3 would be best
  • We have both a wii and ps3.
DF bought the Wii and I bought the PS3.
DS aged 4 plays mainly the wii as he likes to run around waving the controller and the interactions with the game. he struggles a little holding a ps3 remote and "complexity" of some games.

That said DF prefers the wii as it's more "soft" and certainly more family orientated. If we are all in the room together then the wii gets turned on if a computer game is wanting playing.
If it's just DF and I in the evening then the PS3 can be turned on for DVD's, Blu rays, or to play another game. Generally more "adult rating, ie violent, harder eetc."

I suppose it depends what you want to do with the console. as said a PS3 CAN (not always) be backward compatible with PS2 games. Check which PS3 you get. I own a 40gb version and i'm pretty sure it does not play ps2 games.

At the end of the day we use them for the following:
    WII
    family games
younger games (requires less coordination button holding/pressing)
light hearted, play for 15mins and turn off
exercise / interaction / run around

    PS3
    Single player
    Online gaming
    blu ray / dvd
    more mature (violent....)
Guitar hero (though can buy for wii also)

As was mentioned before, have you asked your girls what they want? You maybe surprised by the answer

Only the 60gb original PS3 will play PS2 games but ALL PS3's will play PS2 Singstar games as long as you have a PS3 Singstar game to start with, then press the select button & swap discs..........
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!
  • not all PS3's support PS2 games (apart from singstar - as mentioned above) but all PS3's do support PS1 games.

this is misleading. you can play with friends in the same room as you if you buy more controllers, some games are single player only not all. you can also play with friends and other people online.

Correct, up to 8 offline (playing Buzz) & up to 256 online (playing MAG)............

That is as it maybe, but as you see from my post, I was just writing my personal experience, not all the facilities/functions of both games machines.

I agree it can be used multi player, but generally I find I play more solitary on the PS3 than the WII.

I hope that clarifies readers and I apologise for not being more descriptive
  • We have both and I have to say the Wii only tends to get used when theres a bit bunch of people, but the PS3 gets used a lot more.

Plenty of multiplayer fun on the PS3 as well as the other video functionality.
