Thanks for all your replies! I am still a bit undecided as they aren't really the Grand Auto Theft types, but I know what you are saying about the Blue Ray.
I was thinking of buying my 2 daughters (both teenagers) a new games console. We have an old PS2, but I am not sure which one to buy for them. They are not real gamers and found games like final fantasy nigh on impossible (they lose interest if it is too difficult), but they enjoy things like the Sims and Singstar.
Any ideas which would be the best?
i think the ps3 is better but from what you say the wii probably will be a better choice for you. the wii is pretty much a console for kiddies and girls.

Or people who want to play games in a different way.
Even old blokes

yeah, just in general if you look at the games available they are mostly cutesy and girly. look at the most popular game for it which i think is wii fit. that is so obviously targeted at the dieter and it is mainly women who are into dieting.
We have both. Wanted one but ended up with both. A long story.
Verdict from a 45 year old guy with three kids 13, 10 and 7
Wii - all four of us can play together, the games are fun and not too hard, good for getting excercise for me and the kids, games not too hard, won't get bored when competeing with each other, when friends of all ages visit they join in with the fun
PS3 - faster harder games in comparison, no much movement involved so ideal for couch potatoe, limited people can play - mainly one player but you can join your friends when you link up to their PS3 over the internet, a lot of free demos to download, internet access, dvd player, listen to music etc
the choice is yours
the kids now spend more time on PS3 than Wii
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems Well at least i learn something on the way
i wouldnt say ps3 games are mainly one player. if you play on psn its not one player and if you buy another controller and play co op or versus its not one player. yes there are some games that are only one player but most arent like that.
I don't want to sound like a spoil sport, but if they aren't really "into" games, what's wrong with just keeping your PS2? You've already got games you enjoy on it. Why spend £200+ on something that won't be used that much - it almost sounds like you're forcing it on them!
I know what you mean - Gerbil! I am starting to wonder myself as they are sat plonked in front of the tv at the minute.
We often use the ps2 to play games as a family such as Singstar or Buzz. Problem is that some of the newest Singstars don't seem to be coming out on PS2 - I know you can get Queen, but we prefer the mixes of different songs. I thought it might be nice to have a completely different console in a Wii, so we can still do Singstar, etc on the PS2 but then may be jump about a bit too with a Wii. They love Super Mario on their DSs too and Animal Crossing.
Remember too that all your PS2 Singstar games + microphones will play on the PS3 (all models as long as you have 1 PS3 Singstar game) so that's a good start to your collection along with buying songs from the Singstar store online........
Also your Buzz controllers will also work with PS3 Buzz games (you can have up to 8 players on PS3, great family & friends fun)...
The girls will love watching music videos from the Vidzone (1,000's to choose from)...
Also the web browser on the PS3 is handy if someone else is using the PC/laptop, keeps everyone happy.....
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!
