For that size Plasma has always been considered to be the better product but, and there is always one, LCD's are getting much better.

I would suggest that you find a good retailer and view them for yourself.

Best advice would be to go to a proper shop and have a look yourself, my personal choce is Plasma there are loads of cheap sub £1000 ones avaialable but try and compair them next to a Panasonc and you will see a huge diference unfortunatly the panasonic wont cost £1000 mote like £1400

I would personally opt for a plasma. At 42 inches, I would get the Pioneer (XDE) model.
I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....

LCD aint as prone to screen burn though and in my opinion gives a clearer, crisper picture as long as you get one with a decent refresh rate and decent inputs etc

Forget the cheapies, for 42" you need to spend at least £1400 for plasma and a lot more for LCD.

I work for a 'well known retailer' and I would forget both...
get a good CRT while you still can. Plasma and LCD are just not ready yet and are being forced on us by the media.

I've never seen a LCD screen that's as good as a Plasma. But CRT technology is still far better - except for the size problem.

    That I agree with!

I went into both Comet and Currys today. They had banks of large HD TV's most of them running from a(poor) analog TV signal(we don't have digital TV Sir!) others on a poor signal from a DVD. Their pictures were dreadful!

Others running from a HD source were brilliant but it made comparisons between the sets impossible.
