JOHN LEWIS ARE RUBBISH!!!
Comments
-
You must realise that no firm, including John Lewis means for these types of things to happen, tey are not planned and not meant to turn out badly. To make the statement that John Lewis is rubbish is completely incorrect and untrue.
It stands to reason that no company wishes this to happen, but there are many companies whose stock systems are up to date and will decrease with every purchase until the item is no longer available. Surely it's not beyond the realms of reason to expect a large company such as yours to have a similar system in place?I hope your faith is restored in John Lewis once it is sorted out.

ps. i didnt mean to offend the original poster so if it did i apologise!
Personally I would feel slightly annoyed because of the whole tone of your post.
You seem to have ignored the old maxim of 'the customer is always right'. If someone has a grievance the last thing that would make them feel happy with a company again would be a company representative/employee deriding their complaint.
What you feel is largely irrelevant, if their opinion is that a company is rubbish, I don't personally think it's a wise decision to openly state that their opinion is incorrect or untrue. There are much better ways of dealing with customer disatisfaction.
I assume you have no dealings with the PR department of your company? Perhaps a deep breath before your next reply would ensure a more customer friendly reply?Herman - MP for all!0 -
To make the statement that John Lewis is rubbish is completely incorrect and untrue.
With the greatest respect, I don't think I did take your post incorrectly. The above statement reads to me that the customer is wrong in his opinion, which negates comment number 1 and 2 in your last post.
With regard to the customer always being right........no of course he's not, and neither is the company always wrong. The wise company will ignore the rights or wrongs of a situation (within reason of course) and try to ensure the customer is mollified and satisfied.
I, personally completely understand your feelings about your company, in fact it's refreshing to see your support. I just felt that in your haste to defend your company, you were perhaps a little to quick to make choice remarks shall we say.
However having said that, I'm sure we are both more aware of the opposing viewpoints and that can only be a good thing, surely?Herman - MP for all!0 -
All hinges really on whether payment was taken or not.
Most purchasing transactions follow the following pattern -
1.supplier advertises or showcases goods for sale for a certain price
2. customer offers payment in exchange for goods
3. supplier accepts payment in exchange for goods
- or -
4. supplier declines payment and retains goods.
Once supplier has completed no. 3 then they have entered into a firm and binding contract to supply the goods specified. Until that point the supplier is under no obligation to supply.
If John Lewis/Argos/Any other Company has accepted the "offer to buy" by taking or accepting payment, then they have formed a contract to supply. Simple as.
Classic example and proof if it is needed is the Virgin backdown over the Gamecube.
Any claim of system failures is not a valid defence. If John Lewis (or A.N.Other!) breaches the contract then they are liable for the much mentioned "loss of bargain".0 -

yes, i completely agree with what you say, and can also see why and how my comments can may have been taken in the wrong way, maybe in my haste to defend the company i did not make what i wanted to say clear!. im going to change them now so that no one else misunderstands me!
I hope that the original poster gets their problem sorted it swiftfully and amicably.
John Lewis strives for great customer service and long may that continue.0 -
I think John Lewis are great ;D (apart from them sending a broken teapot
).
But I can understand why people get angry. It shouldn't say it's in stock if it isn't. I'd be the same. In fact I'm angry over every item that I ordered from FCUK, including one that doesn't belong to me! But that's another story.
Incidentally, whilst I did my shopping online with John Lewis pre Christmas, the website showed if items had more than 10 in stock. The more popular items showed up as, for instance, 3 left in stock or 4. Good idea but it tends to make people panic buy and maybe put items in their baskets because they 'appear' to be popular? Just a thought.
Overall though I was delighted with John Lewis and intend to do most of my online shopping with them from now on.0 -

Thank you for your comments! I am pleased that you are happy and enjoy your shopping!!!
Regarding the teapot, i am sure if you take it into any store they will be more than happy to exchange it, free of charge for you!.
i also agree with the fact that items should not be shown in stock if they are not, and i will bring this incident to the attention of johnlewis.com
Thanks again for your kind comments,

Ok sofa, you can stop now.......you're not getting a voucher.
Only kidding. ;D
Actually I have to say that although I haven't actually used the John Lewis site, I would be happy to should they have something I require.
It's like everything else in life, nothing is ever perfect 24/7.
I always take a company's measure, not by the mistakes that are made, but by what they do to to correct them.Herman - MP for all!0 -

yeh, to be honest there isnt so much in the JL sale. A lot of items are "special purchase", these are items brought in especially for the sale. There are only a few other items, eg. a last few items from deleted lines, returns in perfect condition etc.
So really there is not much, which is not great but then again we always have MSE to find us the sales bargains we all know and love!0 -
