misskool - man-made worktops are more resistant to staining than natural stone is, as natural stone is porus, man-made isn't. That's the only thing they are more resistant to. Of course, Silestone isn't pros either, as it is 96% granite and 4% resin and is (I feel) by far the best worktop material. But of course this all depends on what price you can got it for...

Have a shop around, I know there are a couple of decent solid surface suppliers on the net..
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Might be why we got that recommended then, I just wanted hard wearing, easy to clean and not needing to sand/buff/polish for the first 8 weeks of its life jobbie.

will Wickes be ok with us cancelling the worktop part of the order if I explain I'm not happy to sign the disclaimer? Wonder why the sales person never mentioned it at point of sale  :rotfl:

Yeah, they will be fine with it. You can cancel anything from them up to the day of delivery.

Probably because they haven't been told about it. I know that may sound odd, but Sheridans might not have told Wickes that they did it. Could be interesting to find out what they say...

where are you based? (not sure if I asked you this (or someone else) on a previous thread...)

your the customer, if you are not sure, or happy then dont part with your money. or if you have allready they will refund you, the salesman will loose his commission. but if you explain that you are spending a lot of money there and want it to be perfect, and dont want to sign anything saying the product might not be.
mwillets is right silestone is the best,(quartz ) wont stain.

  • Go for Encore solid surface from Bushboard - They have a data base of fitters for South East - best to email them not phone. You can read all about the Encore range on the Bushboard worktops web site - and has fitting and maintenance instructions to download - And no need to sign disclaimers!

I have heard of a guy in Haverhill who polishes his car on a Saturday morning and his worktops in the afternoon! – class…

No don't bother. It's just a cheap Corian rip off. At least Corian is 13mm thick, bonded on chipboard. Encore is only 5mm...

So I've been looking at silestone worktops and conclude I have quite expensive taste :(

I like the stellar negro and so far can only find it for about £2200 and that doesn't even include the sink and mixer tap. :(

What thickness are you going for? 20 or 30mm?
